Shamrock day 2, Shrone Hill. A bit of an epic. 14mins/k was actually quite a good result, 8 mins down on Charlie and 6 on Martin. I lost about 6 minutes on #2 but after that I was quite good. #2 was a long leg and about 2/3 of the way along it I got stuck in some crags. I should have read the map and descended out of it but instead I climbed, got stuck on another crag, climbed a bit further. By now I was way off line and also I had lost any sense of how far I had gone. So I stopped, dithered, descended a bit, stopped again, dithered, descended a bit more, and so on until eventually I relocated just above the control. Everybody else just looked where it was relative to the road below it, which would have made life easier. After that Colm O'Halloran caught me. He was running quicker than me but was losing enough time for me to keep with him until the very end, where I lost a couple of minutes on the third last in the forest with a poor route. At that stage I didn't really care too much.
It was so slow because there were no paths, there were many impassable crags, and between the crags was knee deep grass and tussocks.
The weather was nice apart from the odd shower. Just as well really.
