Orienteering Forest (race) 20:16 [4] 2.8 km (7:14 / km)

Sprint at Salmon La Sac. Great Scandinavian style terrain, with a bit more green than you would find back home. Really easy first few controls, but then a great section of control picking. Only dropped about 45 seconds on the way to 12, took the wrong trail and had to run back.

Orienteering Forest (race) 40:00 [4]

Last leg of the fun relay on team GVOC2 (Oystein, Charlotte, Brian Poon and myself). I started well, but then got completely lost on the way to control 4, making one of the biggest parallel error on recent memory. Still came back first, because the others made large mistakes too.

Orienteering Forest (race) 2:03:00 [3] 19.7 km (6:15 / km)

Goat in the desert. Started with pack running. Clem, Eric, Patrick, Oystein and myself. We all took off to 1, even though that was the best skip... The topo map section was really sketchy and I made a typical goat style mistake. The pack was slightly ahead of me and went right around a small hill. I went left and joined up with them on the other side. Only problem was that they punched control 6 behind the hill and I didn't realize until later. This meant that I used one of my skips for nothing and the others had both left. When we entered back onto the orienteering map, I let the pack go and I slowed down to a jog for the rest of the way home.

Orienteering Forest (race) 15:52 [4] 2.4 km (6:37 / km)

First sprint in Spokane. Fast forest with some good details. Pretty tricky and a bit weird with an old converted 1:10000 map. Made some mistakes, but so did everyone else. Really intense and fun race!

Orienteering Forest (race) 10:55 [5] 2.0 km (5:28 / km) +65m 4:42 / km

Second sprint. Short and super fast open forest. Was pretty clean on this one. About 40 seconds behind Patrick.

Orienteering Forest (race) 1:12:48 [4] 10.2 km (7:08 / km) +345m 6:06 / km

Long race in pretty straight forward valley/ridge terrain with very open forest. Dropped 3 minutes at control 5, which was very vague and almost everyone that had that control had some sort of trouble. Otherwise no problems, except not being able to run faster. Second again after Oystein, about 8 minutes today.

Orienteering Forest (race) 41:43 [4] 4.32 km (9:39 / km) +260m 7:25 / km

Middle distance in an old gold mining area. Very detailed hillsides with strange knolls and re-entrants. Lost about a minute on the first control. Came up just next to it, but did not spot the flag below me in a sharp re-entrant. Ran up to trail and hit it again and saw it this time. Also a big 3 minute mistake at 4, missed just to the right after misreading a small re-entrant and then it was impossible to relocate. Came out in an open area past the control with some rock and had to go back. Then another 1 minute mistake at 11, where I failed to check compass and ended up to the left.

Second place, but a nasty 10 minutes behind Oystein. Not good. But comparing splits I kept up to him on at least 8 of the legs and beat him on 2. If I have a 10 second hesitation, then I'm 10 seconds behind. If I have a little hook, another 20 seconds are lost. It adds up. When I have clean legs I have the same speed, but he has 25 clean legs and I have 8.
