Note

Frustration approaches maximum.
It would be a lot easier to step back and watch things burn and say I told you so afterwords.

Note

Orienteering at Pawtuckaway made life much better. I actually do love this sport!

Cutler out and back with Alex. We took the first three miles hard, then a few easy miles, with one more faster one at the end. No real training reason for that progression other than it felt good.

Wapack doesn't seem to agree with me.
After running this in 2014, and bonking hard in the last few miles, I wanted another chance to have a decent run. I was targeting a reasonable sub 4 hour pace.
Everything was great until just before the turn around when my calves started cramping up so bad I couldn't move my foot. Its really hard to run when trying to not bounce off your toes! The return 9 miles was a slog, degenerating into a shuffle past the mid way aid station. I made it to the finish, but with an even slower time than 2014.
I think this was all a feeding issue. I had stuffed myself at Bubs the night before, and I think I wasn't done digesting yet. Through the whole race my stomach didn't want to take any food or water, and it was a challenge to force gels down. I only got two gels into me as food through the whole race, so I must have been in a huge calorie deficit. I was taking the whole thing easily from the start, and my HR never really got up to race pace, so I think that saved me from being in much worse shape. Stomach continued to be confused for the next day and I didn't get a real meal in until Tuesday morning.

I'll be back in another year to try and conquer this one.
