Note
Been doing a lot of thinking about how I'll approach all of my upcoming races this year as they are quite different than what I'm used to. I think the best thing for CC50K is to just maintain my pace that I have planned. Roughly planning on going through 25K somewhere between 1:55 and 2:00 and hanging onto the same pace back through the 50K. I haven't done that in a race before, or at least I have never been able to hang onto a zero split. Most of that is due to poor race planning or course design. I think CC50K should allow for me to pace properly, and I know who to not follow, and who I can hang with. From reports the course should do a little to slow down the road speedsters so who knows what kind of work I can do in the second half, but hopefully I can pull them back after they surely separate in the first 25K. The goal is simple, race smart, race hard.
Just go into the Forest Park 50K in May and that race will be simple, it's fast and flat, and I need to hang with Yassine as long as possible which is easier said than done. Realistically, this is my best shot to PR at 50K again, would think that my best race in PDX might yield 3:45 - 3:50.
