At the hotel - did something at least

Sunday Mar 16, 2014 #

8 AM

XC Ski - Skate warm up/down 10:00 [2] 1.0 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: Atomic Red Cheetahs

Some back and forth to get warmed up and see how the skis were doing. Cold and dragging on the fresh powder, but the best it will be today, I think.

9 AM

Ski-O race 51:21 [3]
shoes: Atomic Red Cheetahs

Hit the start button on my watch, then 3.5 seconds later hit it again to stop the action apparently.

Just didn't have it on the long haul uphills today - Ernst cleaned my clock by over 8 minutes today. A few sub-optimal route choices as well.

Cold at the start line, but overall didn't notice it too much during the race.

10 AM

XC Ski - Skate warm up/down 20:00 [1] 2.0 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: '03 Yellow Fischer Skating

Testing skis and warming up in the open area around the start/finish. Back and forth between 2 sets of warmer skis - but picked one and stuck with it.

XC Ski - Skate 42:05 intensity: (1:44 @2) + (28:42 @3) + (11:39 @4) *** 7.33 km (5:44 / km) +160m 5:11 / km
ahr:151 max:160 spiked:8/13c shoes: '03 Yellow Fischer Skating

Light sprinkles just before starting. Wind picking up and it was warm. Skis feeling OK.

Good to 1, 2 - should have taken the cutoff options, versus going around. 3 - should have gone around rather than cutting up to the narrow trail at the first opportunity. 4 - screaming down the narrow trail, should have gone straight across the first major trail to the second, or scrubbed off speed by turning right to the cutover, instead turned left and lost 20-30 sec. getting turned around.
5 good, 6 good, 7 - lost focus and took the first right rather than the second, going downhill rather that across the hill, no second intersection and no control, went way too far before I realized I was off the map - lost ~3:30.
8- up past 9, should have continued straight up the narrow trail and approached from above, instead went left, didn't take the tracks up into the control, kept going and angled back in from the other direction.
9 ok, 10- went up the narrow trail by the stone wall, should have looped further around and climbed on the wider trail and cut over.
11 ok, 12 - lost track in all the cut-throughs, took a right instead of a left, trail didn't loop around uphill as I expected, ended uphill of the sugar shack, had to climb the narrow trail I'd been down yesterday, then head back to it.

Meh.

XC Ski - Skate warm up/down 27:24 intensity: (2:44 @0) + (5:50 @1) + (13:54 @2) + (4:56 @3) 3.59 km (7:38 / km) +33m 7:18 / km
ahr:133 max:157 shoes: Atomic Red Cheetahs

Testing wax and various skis - not too cold, but hard windblown snow that felt gritty. New Atomics felt the fastest.

3 PM

Ski-O race 15:10 intensity: (5 @0) + (10 @1) + (1:00 @2) + (9:10 @3) + (4:45 @4) 2.61 km (5:49 / km) +78m 5:04 / km
ahr:151 max:161 shoes: Atomic Red Cheetahs

Bit of confusion getting out of the field - trying to figure out what was a trail and what was possibly covered by drifting snow.
Drifted off the trail into the deep stuff on the way to 1 looking too much at the map.
Some interesting route options throughout.
Bobbled at 6 - skis got tangled up and crossed. Felt like it took forever to get things straightened out.
Then took sub-optimal route to 7, so dog-legged into and out of it.
