Streets west of Caerleon. Started with the hill, which gave some good views - but was glad it wasn’t bigger once up the top. Struggling with any uphill after that but generally feeling better on my feet than I did yesterday.

100 streets done this weekend.

Got home and washed the car which was tiring in the sun. It’s now blue and not green.

More streets, this time in Newport. Started out ok but struggling from 4k onwards. The constant decelerate, turn, accelerate cycle seems to be really hard for me at the moment. And it’s warm too.

Try and do more tomorrow and hope it’s a bit shorter.

Streets in Monmouth. Tiring over the last 8km - as all the cornering it quite hard - but kept at it.

Trellech common maprun.

Still lacking speed and hill strength, and also confidence where the paths are rough so not quite my day.

S-3-29-30-6-27-18-25-24-28-19-26-20-17-9-15-14-22-12-8-23-13-5-7-11-21-4-1-F. 560 points.

Slow start due to rough track and then starting to tire by 18. Cut across the woods to climb the hill after 28 but had somehow missed 16 on the map. Might have just had time for this, or have dropped 7 later on for extra 10 points.

By 9 time was looking marginal for road loop for 10/2 so cut short for an easier finish and glad of it as lost the momentum and had some terrain bashing to/from 7. Maybe worth doing as found a small fluffy owl sat just by the track, and it’s always nice to see an owl.

Pretty tired by the end. May be third day in a row but none have been especially quick. Would be nice for the strength to come back but hospital have told me it could take a long time, or possibly never.

Orienteering - Urban 52:51 [4] 10.27 km (5:09 / km) +140m 4:49 / km

Cheddar urban. 6.9km long course.

Generally nice to run somewhere I’m less familiar with, but found the course quite long and I’m still really lacking the speed and fitness to do it. Struggling through the first 8 controls but moving a bit better through last 8 so long as not crossing walls or going through gates.

There were a few legs with route choice, and happy I made the best choices for me based on the map (but less happy with the reality) - to be expected given how long I had to plan on the running bits.

Most annoying loss of time was taking the climb minimising route 8-9 - which turned out to be 200m of shoulder deep vegetation and nettles (and one impressively thick bramble) with unmapped gates, and mapped with the silly sprint symbol that implies it’s a lot bigger than it is. Possibly 2 mins to be saved by dropping down and going up the track to the farm. To be honest I was a bit annoyed when I first saw this section on the map - didn’t need the extra distance or climb and legs 10 and 11 were then set up as straight running with next to no navigation.

Last part again felt easy navigation as I was well prepped. Confused a bit after 13 but stuck with my simplification and it worked out. Poetic justice for Paul I guess.

When at work realised that if I missed next week then means I’m skipping the office two weeks in a row - which isn’t in the spirit of the new world. Came home to enter to find I’ve been called in for jab 5 that day so glad I left it right until the deadline before (not) committing. One week in advance is really too early to know what I’m going to be doing. Tonight is also the first entry deadline for tomorrow’s MapRun.

MDC from Pontypool. Lacking quick people again so a fairly steady run which is what I wanted. Nice evening and warm but windchill on the top so carrying nearly full kit. Though drink would have been a good addition given how throat was due to pollen and a fly.

Added the steps at the end to see the ancient Gorsedd stones and be mauled by an out of control bichon frisé. Fastish back to the car - not as quick on the downs but surprised at how well I accelerated once on the flat.
