Sugar Loaf orienteering. 5.2km blue course that was planned mostly middle style and didn't cross the valley.

Pleased to do this to compare how I felt to last time - much easier physically even if still very slow uphill. Also very cautious on the downs. Happy enough with end result as reflects my current strengths with terrain and hills.

Navigation mostly ok apart from 5 where tried to be safe and use paths but must have hit the path where not distinct and crossed it. Spidey senses told me it was just above me rather than below and found it. Some time lost on 13 too where should have just stayed on the track - following Freddie as he was going pretty much the right way. Still got Serbia in my head which helped pass the time on the longer legs and didn't distract me too much.

Walked up to the top of Sugar Loaf afterwards - lovely day to be out.

Herefordshire county athletics champs. Rest day so I can recover a bit more and leave the car at home again. Strikes mean the trains are all pretty empty. Very cold until the afternoon, then very hot.

Running - off road 1:08:36 [4] 13.27 km (5:10 / km) +120m 4:57 / km
slept:6.0 (sick) shoes: Nike Pegasus 38

Day off work and taking advantage of the non-striking trains (though because the three trains an hour running between Newport and Cardiff all go within 10 minutes of each other, meant some long waits at Cardiff for connections…)

Porthkerry Park to Aberthaw power station. Caught out early on by the 1:50k OS map having the coast path in the wrong place which added a hill and a lot of distance and was not appreciated as I seem to be struggling with heat, the wind, uphill, and pollen today. Hoped to do 10 mile loop but it was a bit too hard.

Successfully joined up the two ends of coast path so have now circled the vale. Some of the coast was nice, but not overly keen to go back.

Orienteering - Urban 44:07 [4] 8.52 km (5:11 / km) +160m 4:44 / km
slept:5.0 (sick) shoes: Adidas Adizero SL

Kingswood urban after work.

Caught out a few times early on where the map was busy and lost a lot of time, but to be fair was a good course with route choice on nearly every leg. Due to the losses went for the upper route on 22 which was probably not the best - but the hill added more variety and had nothing more really to lose.

Still rubbish up hills, but splits flatter me somewhat as I guess I’m still quicker than most orienteers.

MDC Chartists Cave. Very wet underfoot, but surprisingly very warm and sunny during the run after biblical rain on the drive up. Never really witnessed urban flash flooding before. Moving okish so went the longer route to the trig and back when the group split.

Sad end to the day as found out my dying uncle has died.
