Orienteering (JWOC tour long) 20:00 [3] 1.5 km (13:20 / km) +30m 12:07 / km
slept:1.0 (injured) shoes: inov8 Mudclaw300 Yellow1

Ankle has been in considerable pain since the Harvester and swollen up. Hurts to walk. Managed to jog to start but felt it wanting to go straight away and it tried to go 4 times before I gave up. Found some controls very close to 1 but not it - there was nothing to tell us control descriptions were at assembly so was going blind somewhat. Did about 800m in the terrain before retiring before making ankle much worse.

So much for hoping this week was going to cheer me up...

Orienteering - Night race (Harvester Leg 1) 1:17:01 [4] 11.1 km (6:56 / km) +165m 6:28 / km
slept:2.0 weight:69.6kg (injured) shoes: inov8 Roclite295 (2)

Prepared for run by ripping my finger open - result being that I couldn't bend left hand and struggled to hold map.

Leg 1. 8.6km. Started out safe following paths, then when I couldn't overtake Mark S in the sand cut through the heather. Didn't take good route to 4 so suspect I lost a bit of time.

Mess on 5 (2 mins) - control was really hidden I was a couple of feet away and didn't see it. Parallel error on 6 but soon realised as veg was mapped fairly well - 1 min. Then lost another min in the circle in the 8ft tall bracken.

Another minute off on 7 - disoriented by bracken and went wrong way, relocated quickly.

90s lost at 8 - again was right next to control but didn't see it due to it being hidden. Found the other elongated knoll and worked back.

On way to 11 turned off one junction too early, realised immediately and went through bracken to recover. Bearing at the end a bit odd so had to go in from behind - found the form line depression first but the control hole was very small and didn't seem in the right place in relation to the bigger one. 30s? Bottom route to 12.

Half way between 13 and 14 right foot slipped off a stone and pulled it a bit too much - still hurting this morning/afternoon. Limped for about 2 mins until the pain subsided enough to try and run again.

Didn't do the urban controls very well. Maybe lost another minute towards the end.

Could well have lost 11 mins or so out there. Still fairly happy with my run.

Running 1:31:52 [3] 12.7 km (7:14 / km) +190m 6:44 / km
slept:4.0 weight:70.3kg shoes: Saucony Powergrid Triumph 10 g

Run with Duncan and Chris S to try and cheer myself up.

Exploring bits of Stoke Bishop. Found an interesting private estate off Old Sneed Road. May have circumvented the barricades around Hiatt Baker by sneaking through one of the buildings...

Saw a very small badger in the nature reserve - never seen one in the daylight before.

Not very quick with lots of stopping, and walking most of the way up the gorge.

Didn't get home until very late - think the last time I was out later was after the Harvester last year, so sure I'll be sufficiently rested for tonight...

Orienteering - Urban race (NGOC Urban Score) 1:01:00 [4] 12.91 km (4:44 / km) +30m 4:40 / km
slept:4.0 weight:71.2kg shoes: Saucony Powergrid Triumph 10 g

NGOC urban score around Pittville Park in Cheltenham. Double sided map - 1 side 1:5000 ISOM (not ISSOM) spec, the other 1:12,500 stick diagram with bits of yellow and green.

Route S-9-10-18-19-17-28-30-21-11-12-13-20-23-22-29-27-24-26-25-2-3-4-14-16-15-8-5-6-7-F. Missed 1 (10 points) and was 1 min late.

Leaving the start was caught out by several fatal mapping errors - a dead end had been obscured by overprinted "crossing point" text, then crossable fence was uncrossable, then underpass wasn't mapped right so I didn't see it - so had lost 90s by the first control.

Soon worked out what was and wasn't mapped. 21 very dodgy as in a field that wasn't mapped as yellow when others were.

Only order of controls I would have changed would be to do 3-14-4-16, and, if map was correct from start, would have got 7 and 8 on the way out. Should then have been comfortably enough time for me to clear had I done this.

Apart from getting a pretty good 10k time (for me), the WIP Ross map going down well and John Fallows possibly being injured has been a pretty crap day.

Running 22:01 [5] 5.01 km (4:24 / km) +20m 4:19 / km
slept:2.0 weight:71.5kg shoes: Saucony Powergrid Triumph 10 g

From home up to Little Stoke park and then around until 5k. Wanted to do more but was pretty dead - combination of lack of sleep/food/drink/warm up, bit too much heat and a bit of a cold from the weekend. Still, 22 mins wasn't too bad...

Running warm up/down 22:00 [3] 3.0 km (7:20 / km) +30m 6:59 / km
shoes: Saucony Powergrid Triumph 10 g

Very slow jog back. Left knee feels like it needs some stretching.
