Orienteering - Urban race (NGOC Longlevens) 1:01:40 [5] 12.66 km (4:52 / km) +15m 4:51 / km
slept:5.0 weight:71.9kg shoes: Saucony Powergrid Triumph 10 g

NGOC Sprint + Score at Oxstalls and Longlevens. 70 minutes allowed to do the lot.

Very rushed at the start - didn't allow for the 40 minutes it took to get from Patchway to Aztec West or the lack of useful road signs in Gloucester (for A38, read low bridge, for M5, read "Gloucester Business Park") although a 20 minute blast up the motorway recovered a bit of time :-)

Took all of my frustration out on the sprint - no mistakes - and kept running hard for the first few of the score course. Not the best route but wanted the convoluted loops at the beginning rather than when I was really tired at the end otherwise I would have just skipped them.

S-8-7-18-1-9-27-19-25-24-22-13-23-20-3-17-16-26-29-14-15-12-6-5-2-28-10-21-11-30-4-F

7 an awkward control to get so glad I got it early, but probably should have started with 4, 2 and 5 before 8, and then jumped from 6-28 towards the end.

Lost 20s on wrong road at 2, 30s on 21 looking for control and another 15s looking for 30. Kept fast for the first 5k (about 23 mins) and then slowed for a bit before getting into a steady pace. Seems to have been my fastest orienteering pace ever tonight.

One of only two to clear the map in time. Easy victory over Joe G and Burley.

Orienteering - Urban race (Westbury urban) 43:16 [3] 7.98 km (5:25 / km) +50m 5:15 / km
slept:5.0 weight:72.9kg shoes: inov8 Mudclaw300 Yellow1

BOK Urban at Westbury. 5.7k long course.

Right shin and ankle still not feeling great so started out fairly easy. Exited 3 to the south before noticing the marginally better northern route. Went north 8-9 when south probably better. Should have gone through graveyard to 10.

Wondered about going north route 11-12 but south must have been shorter. Fairly sensible routes and planned exit from 16 in advance. Hard to tell the best route 17-18 but I took a better route than Keith and knocked a few seconds off his lead. Lost a couple of mins on 22 looking on the earth bank, but others lost more. Went through the grass for most of 24-25, not so fun.

Not a bad area. Very well planned course.

Checking out the suitability of a few areas for orienteering. Looking quite positive although the undergrowth is right up in places. Glad I was only walking.

Orienteering - Urban race (Poundbury urban) 47:34 [4] 9.42 km (5:03 / km) +70m 4:52 / km
slept:5.5 weight:72.5kg shoes: Saucony Powergrid Triumph 10 g

Poundbury urban. 7.5km Men's Open course.

Ankle and shin really been playing up since Ashton Court - hurting to the point where I didn't think I could run in the morning, so glad to get round ok.

Had an ok start but was bored in the middles legs 6-13. Took east route into 6, then west side to 7. Had planned all the way up to 15 on the way. Went into 12 from the west so didn't have any trouble and knew to go round the top to 14, but based on other people there was next to nothing in it.

Last bit in Poundbury itself was a slog but kept in close contact with the map and didn't go wrong. Didn't see the alleyway route to 19 which probably cost me 15-20s.

Good fun. Less than 4 mins down on Mark, and only 10 down on Adam/Geoff so must have been a fairly good run for me. May take some getting used to the heat again.
