Orienteering race (SWOC Regional) 1:04:26 [4] 7.97 km (8:05 / km) +205m 7:10 / km
shoes: inov8 Roclite295 (1)

SWOC Regional at Clydach Terrace, blue course.

Lacking energy somewhat, couldn't read the details on the map, was a recipe for disaster.

Slightly missed 1 - 2 mins error; 2 ok-ish - found a pit on the ground and took a long time to find it on the map. 3, 4 ok. 5 slightly off - probably 30s. Small miss at 6 - 1-2 mins. Couldn't see what contours were doing at 9 - 30s. Caught out by the big feature just before 10 that didn't look as mapped - 30s. Wrong bearing to 11 - getting on for a minute lost. 12 fine, 13 would have been fine if I hadn't gone past it before realising that the easy control I'd just passed was actually on my course - 20s.

Didn't think route to 15 was the best - probably flatter options available. Odd to run through the start mid-way through. Slightly unsure with the location of 15, 16-17-finish being fine.

About 6 minutes or so of mistakes today - should have managed under the hour comfortably. Suppose I can console myself by having beaten the Fosters and the man I ran with for most of the CSC Final, beating him today by about as much as he beat me last week.

Orienteering - Urban race (Cambridge City Race) 1:07:15 [5] 12.28 km (5:29 / km) +20m 5:26 / km
shoes: Saucony ProGrid Triumph 7

Would have been a good run, but ruined by a gate that I couldn't open...

Nice technical course to start with - went quite slowly to ensure I was going the right way and didn't miss any turns.

Probably took the wrong route 12-13. Seemed to end up on the busiest pedestrian street in the world and kept having to stop. Think the longer route by 11 could have saved me as much as a minute.

15-16 I think I had the optimum route, as suggested by the map. Went nice a quickly save for being held up by the cyclists that we determined not to let me go in front of them but didn't want to go even as fast as I was running... Got to the big gate just west of 16 and couldn't get it open, so had to go back around. Lost about 5 minutes. Had a word with the controller afterwards, as did somebody else who had the same problem - we were offered his apologies, which is little consolation for my run being ruined.

Then messed up 17-18 in frustration by going to a bridge with a gate on it. For map clarity I'd have preferred it to be mapped with a big red "X" to denote "forbidden route".

The rest was all ok, just I didn't have much will to carry on. Lost about 2 minutes to my own mistakes, 5 because of being unable to open this gate - should have finished pretty much on the hour.

Running (BOK Training Run) 55:26 [3] 8.76 km (6:20 / km) +80m 6:03 / km
shoes: Saucony ProGrid Triumph 7

Quite a slow pace around Clevedon. Didn't have much energy for this, and was pretty slow for the first half. Felt as though I was running better later on.

Lots of getting lost on the way round.
