Felt a bit fresher at the start than I have recently, but still wasn't sure about recovery from the marathon. Set off steadily but found the pace I was forced to run at by all the traffic a bit easy. Even so, stayed relaxed at the bottom of the hill, just doing my own thing, and only picked it up when the gradient eased. Thought I might be overtaking on the circuit of the hillfort and descent, but wasn't. Even so, felt strong. Pulse had been in the low 40s all day, and in the last 3 km I felt really fit. Rain and mud may have contributed to the 'euphoria'. Only problem was hips were still sore from London and they weren't able to convert all my cardiovascular energy to speed. So caught some, but was caught too. There's no doubt now about the toll the marathon took, but no doubt that I can get speed and performance back too. Great evening despite the rotten weather.
