Road run race (Oxford Half Marathon) 1:34:48 [5] 13.1 mi (7:14 / mi)
(sick)

Slept very badly on Friday thanks to coughing, then had a dozy lie-in till 9.30 which did me a power of good. Saturday night was better after I stopped the coughing with huge quantities of water. I’d be ok to take part and thought I could run with Lucy, but I was struggling with her 1hr 30 pace inside the first mile (7 mins) and decided just to keep it easy. Felt alright till about 3 miles but thereafter went downhill and fought to maintain pace, so was surprised to manage 7 min miling through Marston village. Slowed after we passed halfway and reached the Parks at 10 miles in 71 mins, but by now was really feeling it. The rest was grim, just endurance. I got overtaken by so many people and at one point thought I might actually have to walk. But hung on to 7 min 45 miling and just ground it out to cross the line inside 95 mins, which I’d given myself as a sort of target to keep me trying. In the circumstances, I was reasonably pleased with the pace to 8 miles, and the collapse thereafter was to be expected. Even so, enjoyed the occasion and conditions and was delighted that Lu surpassed all her targets.

Slept badly again, with a cold, but cycled anyway. Didn't feel too bad but was coughing all day. One day to recover?
