Reached halfway in 20 mins 20 secs, so ran second half in 19.30. Negative split. Problem was the headwind throughout some of the first half, which meant you knew second (downhill) half was likely to be quicker. And that being the case, what pace should you set? Was at 2k in 8.05 and 3k in 12.15. Failed to speed up after 5k and went through 7k in 28.20 with the hill to come. Was at 8k in 32.20 and had pretty much written off a sub-40 when 9k timing was 36.15. But I did pick it up in the last kilometre and when I turned for the theatre was just outside 39 mins and knew it was on again. Raced over the speedbumps and for the line with the clock in view. Gun time was 39.55. If I'm going to be running any faster I need to be working out anaerobically.

Was about a minute slower than I thought I was, which was a bit disappointing. But 10k build-up seems on track. Rest up now before Sunday and cycle as much as possible.
