Orienteering race (Capite and Frenchland) 1:27:46 [4] 10.0 km (8:47 / km) +125m 8:16 / km
After several weeks off, including the whole of June, it was so good to be orienteering again. Even if it was a brambly, nettley wood at the height of summer. Started well enough and was probably being a bit hard on myself for small time losses through hesitation, but picked the wrong ride after 12 minutes on the way to 4 and wasted about 60 seconds sorting myself out. Got stuck in bracken near 5, went wrong way to 6, and lost confidence near 8. Kenny caught me at 10 and was going much faster so I hung on to him through to 13. After I overtook Barry the wheels came off a bit though. Ran off the map leaving 14 and had to relocate, then got confused on the long leg 15 and started dithering. Went wrong way to 18, but was probably only about 4 mins down by this time. Problems really began with 20, where I completely neglected attackpoint and ended up overshooting and then blundering about aimlessly. Lost 3 more mins here, then did exactly the same thing again at 23 and 24, except here there was added bramble menace. And with a total of 10 minutes of mistakes I was never going to have a good result. Despite that, it was good to be running in trees again.
