Orienteering race (Blackheath & Farley Heath) 1:19:59 [4] *** 9.6 km (8:20 / km) +255m 7:21 / km
spiked:22/28c

So much for nailing the first three controls again! 2 was a complicated leg involving OOB settlements and green forest. I thought I'd picked a good route quickly, but I got a ride confused with a fence, came out in the wrong clearing, and took three minutes to relocate. Then I picked a poor route to 3 and, trying to make up time, went straight for 4, lost contact and binned two more mins working out where I was. 14 minutes in and I'd spent 6 of them lost! Oh well. Was a bit better after that, but got paths confused near 6, rushed and lost time at 10 and got stuck in the brambles near 21. Farley Heath, between 12 and 20, was much better, and I was helped here by racing and beating two guys on the brown. Given a disastrous start, the result was ok. And I thoroughly enjoyed the event, the area and, especially, the weather, which was sunny and even a bit warm in parts!

Cycling (Felpham and back) 1:05:00 [3] 22.0 km (2:57 / km)

Morning was ok, but ride home was horrible. Especially the traffic. Thankfully the wind was behind.

Road run (Summersdale and South St) 30:41 [5] 8.0 km (3:50 / km)

Felt absolutely blooming marvellous. In spite of the grim weather. Fresh, fit and fast, and light on my feet. I do need to be careful of my back though. 11 days to the race, with O on Sunday and then two easy efforts next week I think. Once the season starts, the races will be the hard sessions.
