Orienteering race (Yateley Heath) 1:21:08 [4] *** 8.9 km (9:07 / km) +150m 8:24 / km
spiked:19/21c

Weather was benign and I felt fit-ish, but after a summer off I really didn't enjoy the terrain running. Bracken, marshy tussocks, scatchy stuff, brashings, all deeply unpleasant. Was rusty to 1 and ran right past huge re-entrant, and jungley bracken beside tracks suggested to me not to bother looking for minor paths to 2 but to stick with 'roads'. Same for 3, but managed to cut through for 5. There was a long dull road run to 7 and back from 9, but I got it together a bit better for 10 through 14. Biggest miss (3 mins) was 15, which I may have overshot, but tussocks were discouraging round here. Took to the 'roads' again for 19 through 21, then turned wrong way at end of tapes near finish! Prefer Fun Run League races more, tbh.

Trail run (SDW Midnight run) 4:40:00 [4] 38.0 km (7:22 / km)

Slightly mad, but extremely enjoyable, headtorch run along the South Downs Way from Buriton to Amberley. Started conservatively, walking most of the uphills, but once we got past Linch Down and the gradients lessened the pace picked up. Which was a mercy or we might have been out for much longer. Had eaten little all day, but aside from half a bag of dried apricots hardly touched the food stores I was carrying. And felt mostly fine. Ease of navigation and mostly flat running made this a good way to enjoy the slightly over-familiar SDW.

And then ...
5 PM

Road run (Summersdale and South St) 32:00 [5] 8.0 km (4:00 / km)

Legs a bit heavy after bike ride, and wasn't pushing that hard anyway. I'm just trying to get used to more regular road runs.

Had a watch and timed myself. So probably went a bit quicker.

Just fancied this. And it was a lovely evening. Pushed hard and included efforts.
