Recovery day! Burnmoor Tarn, Miterdale, Boot, then back via the Lodge. Easy going, if wet underfoot. And a stream crossing astride a couple of logs! Handcut chips and beer in the lovely pub before a sunny dander back.

Went for it despite the terrible conditions. Grike from Scaly Moss, Crag Fell, Caw Fell, Lankrigg Moss. Bit of a 'bagging' day, and Caw Fell as determined as ever to keep me at bay. Last time I was short of the top by a km, cheated by thick cloud. Today we had clag again, with heavy rain and driving winds, but found the right cairn by the wall. Then almost came unstuck at the crossing of Worm Gill. This was so swollen and powerful in mid-stream that the only way across was arm in arm, an operation my companion was less than thrilled at. But we survived.

Scafell Pike via Hollowstones, Broad Crag, Esk Hause, Esk Pike, Bow Fell, The Band, Old Dungeon Ghyll, Rossett Gill, Sty Head, Wasdale. Jan's ambitious route for day 1. Started well, but struggled a bit with the long descent to Langdale. Revived by a pint and crisps at the ODG and powered the afternoon uphills, but aborted the planned return via Lingmell. Stream crossings tricky after day and night of heavy rain.

More unpaid overtime.

Trail run (Fittleworth Five recce) 34:13 [5] 8.0 km (4:17 / km) +130m 3:57 / km

Then ran the FF route again at max intensity. Fairly pleased with comfortable sub-35 time, but may still need to be about 30secs quicker. Better food, earlier start (with proper warm up) and greater sustained effort in last mile might be enough for 33-something.
