Intervals (Goodwood hill reps) 32:00 [5] 6.0 km (5:20 / km) +250m 4:25 / km

Joined Lucy's training group for a proper hard workout that was a bit different from the long-O/threshold runs. We had to run up a steep muddy hill and recovery-jog back down again as many times as possible in 30 mins (which is quite a long time for that intensity). This is Stewart's killer session, the one that makes the kids cry. I was pleased to get through OK without a heart attack; I must have looked like one waiting to happen! Actually it was OK. I thought I'd manage 5 or 6 in the time but was just about OK for 8. Kept it steady throughout and tried to pick up near the top of the hill. Enjoyed having the encouragement of a coach, as well. But also remembered why I don't like training with groups. All the HANGING AROUND. Almost as bad as SEJS. The kids NEVER STOP TALKING. And I can't see the point of the mega-long warm up/down which is done at a little over walking pace and can have no training benefit at all. Also, it was pouring with rain throughout and turning cold. But, really enjoyed it!

Road run (Summersdale and South St) 32:30 [5] 8.0 km (4:04 / km)

Back didn't feel good, but was no problem thank goodness. Was slightly under-hydrated but found a comfortable steady pace off the top of the hill and concentrated on breathing. Felt good in second half, if a bit tired at the end, but time was 30 secs quicker again. This is the right session.
