Orienteering race (GO Middle Race) 55:30 [4] *** 6.5 km (8:32 / km) +175m 7:32 / km
spiked:17/23c

Waggoners Wells. Not raining! So the second best event of the year turned out to be a middle race too, not all that technical but full on and on an excellent area. Stopped a little early for 3 and, having elected not to use paths to 5, strayed off bearing in bracken/gorse/tussocks and ended up where path route would have brought me out. Found map really helpful in the complex earthworks in NW corner, but got a bit lost in the light green around 11. Most of the rest was paths and knowing when to leave them and went OK apart from 22, where I got the thickets confused. Probably lost about 3 mins all told, so can't complain, but I don't know how I did because there were no results. Time is approx too at the moment. Slight twinge in back after, from road running presumably.

Note

Selhurst Xmas Score. Put out three more controls form Droke at 6.30 with the help of a headtorch. It was pitch dark. Then did the 4 easternmost ones as it began to both lighten and rain heavily. Then Lu checked yesterday's were still there while I did the final 12 in two batches of 6. Finished about 9.20 so plenty of time for start and finish. Seemed to go OK, three people making a start on the 'bonus' controls but nobody getting them all. Lots of slips and falls and complaints about mud. At least we weren't in Sheffield Forest or Hollybush Wood!

Note

Plan was to put out 13 of the westernmost controls for Selhurst just before dark, but we were held up on the M25 and got started about 3.15, too late, just as it began to pour. Anyway, managed 11 OK, finishing in proper murk at 4.30. Definitely excited about event, though, even if the weather means we probably won't get many. I think I've got the challenge right.

Road run (Summersdale and South St) 33:50 [5] 8.0 km (4:14 / km)

Lentil soup not the best running fuel, and some tiredness form Saturday, but kept it short so could try and pick it up in parts.
