Orienteering race (Brighton University sprin) 21:45 [4] *** 2.7 km (8:03 / km)
spiked:18/20c

Fond memories of the area from the British Sprints last year, and opportunity of a meet-up with most of the Peter Palmer parents, so made the trip. Chances of a top three in the series very remote though. Started at a lick and was pleased to be hitting controls cleanly, then en route to 6 just got distracted by all the youngsters and families ambling about and lost just enough focus to run up the steep hill to the big building beyond the one I actually wanted. Then got confused and had to relocate. At least 90 secs lost and any chance of a decent result. Oddly enough, didn't get overtaken by anyone. Wore glasses for first time to see if it made leg planning any easier but I'm not sure it did, although there was plenty of bright sunlight. I think my routes were OK, but I never planned the exit from 17 and left in completely the wrong direction. Another 30secs at least. It's a wonder my final result wasn't any worse to be honest. Proper little sprint race.

Orienteering race (Park Wood Poynings) 49:23 [4] 4.0 km (12:21 / km)

Given the distance and the TD (3), my time is embarrassing, but I really was doing the best I could with a Petzl headtorch which could barely make out the paths. Whenever someone with a proper headlamp came by the forest was lit up like it was daytime. Luckily the area was really runnable or I'd have been fighting with vegetation I couldn't see as well. So I just plodded round on what was a lovely evening and was pleased not to waste any serious time anywhere. Good fun.
