Orienteering race (Southwater CP snooker-O) 54:20 [4] 7.0 km (7:46 / km)
Don't rate the area, and knew light would make it almost impossible for me to read the codes printed on the map, but fancied a workout. Was unprepared tactically and basically set off with my score-event head on, aiming to collect all the 70s (reds) plus all the 90s (colours) alternately. So was confused momentarily when I ran out of colours first. But before 30 mins were up realised I was going to get them all (22, and 53 points) easily, so had to spend a bit of time in the open where light was good enough for me to work out where the 90s were and which order I had to do them in. Also, had to ask Alex if we needed another colour after the last red, so hope he didn't mind. Took over 20 mins to get all six 'colours' in order as they were placed at opposite ends of the park, but finished with over 5 mins left. Some people had gone for a 'maximum break' by revisiting the 'black' after each red. As completing the course and collecting the colours had only earnt me 27 points, it would probably have been more efficient in terms of time and running effort to go for the 82 points on offer using this strategy. But the 'black' was in the grottiest bit of the park, and I'd come for a workout and not for a dose of brainache. As it was, really enjoyed the combination of navigational decision-making and running.
