Trail run (Stonehenge Stomp) 3:14:00 [4] 32.0 km (6:04 / km) +250m 5:50 / km

Wasn't quite over cold but was willing to start. And see. Route was a wiggly circuit of Amesbury and Normanton Downs with descents to and over the River Avon then back past all the Stonehenge paraphernalia. Less mud and more grass than recently, which was a welcome bonus. Apart from a group of four youngsters that passed me I was overtaking earlier starting runners almost throughout, so that kept me pushing on, but I was very tired for the last 7km or so. And glad to stop. But I have been unwell. On the whole, though, an encouraging morning in grim conditions. At least I was driving home when the heavier rain arrived in the p.m.

Trail run (Winter Tanners) 4:30:00 [4] 33.0 km (8:11 / km) +530m 7:34 / km

Downloaded route description and ran this unofficially with Lu. Very worried beforehand about back, weather and kit, but took two ibuprofen and had no problems at all. Despite being very sore when I got up. Route was Polesden Lacey, Oldlands Wood, Effingham and Sheepleas, Netley Heath, Hawkhurst Down, White Downs, Ranmore Common, Fetcham Downs, and was very good. But VERY MUDDY. And it rained lightly throughout. We found an easy pace and jogged on, stopping briefly for food (inc. CP2 - they insisted) and for a bit longer when we went the wrong way or became unsure, which happened about three times. Really pleased with the way this went, as it was a lot of time on our feet, went ok, and I was happy to keep going after the planned 18 miles. A good foundation for more of the same.

Oiling the chain no doubt helped, but I was pleasantly surprised by how easy I found the bike this morning. Was a bit nervous about extent of recovery from the weekend, but just two days seems to have done the trick. Encouraged.

Trail run (Bignor Hill and Slindon) 1:34:00 [5] 18.5 km (5:05 / km) +300m 4:42 / km
weight:71kg

Repeated the run from Eartham Woods of 5 March last year. Tour of Glatting Beacon may have added a half kilometre. Hips hurt after half an hour and right ankle after 60 mins but tried to concentrate on running strong instead and felt pretty fit. But only for this distance (i.e. a road half). Wouldn't have wanted to go much further. Logged as effort 5 because Jan did a shorter circuit and I was trying to finish together. And had a time from last year as a target. Nice to do consecutive days but the recovery in the week ahead will be crucial.

Orienteering race (Lancing SOG) 51:03 [4] 5.6 km (9:07 / km) +140m 8:06 / km
weight:72kg

Nice change. Rather than the scheduled 17 miles I thought it might be better to do this then throttle back to 11 tomorrow. Then step it up next week. Lancing's mostly runnable. Back was very sore (from cycling?) when I got up but a magic tablet made all the stiffness melt away. Had two goals really, to get round without a dumb mistake and to finish feeling fresh enough for a run tomorrow. So nice and steady was the plan. Was ropey to 1 and pretty much throughout but I did well minimizing risk and flags came up eventually without two much wasted effort. Had a slight problem with the 1:5 scale and the purple overprint (same colour as contours). Couldn't often see where to go next. Overtook a whole bunch of people on a pretty technical course, but was nowhere special compared to the regulars. Enjoyed it though and atmosphere was v pleasant.

Another easy and pleasant NYD walk from Dunsfold church to Hambledon via H Hurst, then back along Greensand Way and via Peartree Green (c.8 miles). Took a precautionary ibuprofen as was creaky setting off, but that really may have been the beer/wine combo?
