Trail run (Amberley and Findon) 2:28:00 [3] 15.5 mi (9:33 / mi) +415m 8:49 / mi

Lu and I both fancied a long easy run as part of Oxford Half prep so i planned the flattest driest route I could from the station at Amberley. Mostly I wanted reassurance that my various bits, hip, ankle, shin, calf, weren't going to rule the distance out altogether. As I haven't really felt right since the Three Forts in May. So we went through North Stoke and up Camp Hill, then down to Burpham, up again to Wepham Down (lovely climb on grass), then round Harrow and Blackpatch Hills to the Longfurlong Road, and up to the SDW above Windlesham School and past Springhead and Rackham Hills to the finish before the descent began. Started really easy but picked it up a little from halfway and a bit more once we joined the SDW. Lu ran away from me near the Kithurst car park and I'd have had to race to keep up. Nice to finish strong. Hugely enjoyable run on a superb route. Back to speedwork now.

Hillwalking (Pembrokeshire Coast) 5:00:00 [3] 10.5 mi (28:34 / mi) +375m 25:43 / mi

Left the car at Strumble Head, then caught the Strumble Shuttle to Abercastle. Coast path via Abermawr and Pwllderi back to car. Delayed depart because of the heavy rain, which I thought would lighten, but it didn't. Cliffs were a bit more dramatic over this stretch but the views were spoilt by the low cloud. Saw loads more seals though.

Hillwalking (Pembrokeshire Coast) 6:00:00 [3] 13.5 mi (26:40 / mi) +325m 24:49 / mi

Parked at Rhos Gadw and walked to where we'd left the coast path on Tuesday, then followed it via Aberreiddy and Porthgain to Abercastle. From here there was a bus back to St Davids which dropped us at Rhodiad. Intermittent rain all the way, but the chips at Porthgain were appreciated.

Hillwalking (Pembrokeshire Coast) 6:00:00 [3] 13.0 mi (27:42 / mi) +425m 25:08 / mi

Drove to Little Haven, then got bus to Solva and followed coast path via Newgale Sands, Nolton, Druidston and Broad Havens back to LH. Brisk southerly headwind and light rain all day long. Some ups and downs but the going on the whole was fairly easy.

Hillwalking (Pembrokeshire Coast) 4:30:00 [3] 7.5 mi (36:00 / mi) +130m 34:10 / mi

Morning was a write-off because of the rain, but walked in the pm from Porthclais to Solva via Caerfai and Morfa Common, then got bus back to St Davids.

Hillwalking (Pembrokeshire Coast) 8:00:00 [3] 15.5 mi (30:58 / mi) +345m 28:58 / mi

Followed coastal path from campsite at Porthclais to Ramsey Sound and St Justinians, then across Whitesands Bay to St David's Head. Detour up and down Carn Llidi, then northern coastline to Carnedd lleithr and back via St Davids. Superb conditions all day long and fantastic scenery the whole way. Strange to come back to a place you have good memories of and find it even better than you remember it!

Trail race race (Tilgate Five) 36:22 [5] 8.0 km (4:33 / km)

Oh dear, ran like an idiot. Ended up in the front row on the start line so hared off too fast and got passed by hordes going up the first hill. These included PL and Steve K, so I decided the steadier pace I'd settled on was too slow. Thereafter was ok going downhill but really struggled on the ups and so kept swapping places with people round me. By halfway Steve must have had almost 100yds lead and looked strong so I figured it would be his day and I just dug in. I never got a second wind or anything but realised I was slowly catching him on the downs, and eventually raced past inside the last mile. Tried to look fit but wasn't, but I think he sort of resigned himself. Finished some way down a huge field and never once felt 'right', but enjoyed the route and will feel happier about things if I manage to score 9 points. Also, another tick on the WSFRL list. Three left I think.

Walk (South West Coast Path) 5:00:00 [3] 11.0 mi (27:16 / mi) +100m 26:31 / mi

Final short stretch from Bideford back along Torridge estuary and through Appledore to Westward Ho!, where we resumed the path in May 2014. Rain fell for the most atmospheric part of the day around Northam Burrows, but the very easy day seems to have allowed my shin to recover. Had booked a seat on the Lundy ferry today but it was cancelled because of high winds which never materialised. Bah! Just Polzeath down to Lands End to go now. October half-term?

Walk (South West Coast Path) 7:00:00 [3] 16.0 mi (26:15 / mi)

With all the cyclists along the Tarka Trail from Braunton, through Barnstaple and Fremington Quay to Bideford Bridge. Then a second bus back to Instow where I'd left the car. I think the uniform walking style along the old railway gave me a pain in my left shin by the end. Even hotter, but there were plenty of places to buy water and ice cream.

Walk (South West Coast Path) 10:00:00 [3] 24.0 mi (25:00 / mi) +600m 23:12 / mi

Drove to Braunton, got the 21 bus to Ilfracombe, then resumed the coast path walk from where it was left off in April 2013. Through Lee Bay, past Bull and Morte Points, along Woolacombe Sands, round Baggy Point, behind Braunton Burrows, and up the Taw and Caen estuaries to Braunton. So a day of contrasts but all of it very good. Bit hot earlier but lovely walking into the evening on easy coastal paths.

Trail run (South Downs Way) 1:12:00 [4] 8.0 mi (9:00 / mi)

Start of Oxford Half training with Lu. Walked from Titten Lane almost to Rackham Hill, then used Garmin to run 4 miles before turning round and running back to start point. Ran at an average of just under 9 mins/mile pace and felt very comfortable, if a little 'knocked about' after. It was a hot day but there was a pleasant breeze which kept the temps down. SDW was busy and cheery. Really enjoyed myself just joggin'.

Trail race race (Highdown Hike) 28:18 [5] 6.5 km (4:21 / km) +140m 3:56 / km

Was a bit surprised to see fellow FF CW at the start as he hasn't been at anything since this race last year, when he beat me. He went off fast so I just ignored him as I was more interested in finding out how much fatigue from the Cotswold Way walk was still in my legs. Not too much, it seemed. Route was a bit different to last year, with laps of the football field at the bottom but no uphill finish this time, thank goodness. I caught Chris when he tripped going up the steep second hill but he powered away again, then I noticed the lad who'd given me such a hard time when I led the F5 junior race last year ahead of me but tying up. I pushed a bit harder as the gradient lessened, passed him comfortably, then some others and then CW. I thought he'd hang on to me but he didn't and I had a bit of sprint for the last bit anyway. Nice to beat him. Thought we were going to be running in a massive thunderstorm at the start as there was serious lightning and thunder over Littlehampton, but there were just a couple of spots of rain in the end.

Hillwalking (Cotswold Way 2015) 7:45:00 [3] 16.0 mi (29:04 / mi) +250m 27:43 / mi

The End, Tormarton to Bath. A day that got better and better, although the early ice creams at Pennsylvania were a highlight. Met by Jan at Kelston Round Hill for the finish, and Bath looked magnificent in the sunshine. No real problems all week, thank goodness, but was weary at the end. May be a seven day schedule might have been better?

Hillwalking (Cotswold Way 2015) 9:30:00 [3] 20.0 mi (28:30 / mi) +600m 26:04 / mi

Stinchcombe to Tormarton. Including my favourite bit between Wotton under Edge and Hawkesbury. The Bottoms (not 'dingles') are like a land that time forgot, straight out of Laurie Lee. Managed to climb the Tyndale monument and enjoyed an early dinner on the ramparts of Sodbury Hillfort. Getting a bit too warm.
