Stationary Bike 17:00 [2]

Slowly extending the time and pedal tension. At 17 minutes my quads started to ache so I switched to the treadmill.

Walking 12:00 [1]

Tried speeding up to a brisk walk but the hip muscles were not happy. Under different circumstances I would have pushed through it but I will just slowly extend the time and pace over the next few weeks.

Strength training 20:00 [2]

Lat pull down 4*10 and chest press 4*10.

Stretch & Strength 20:00 [1]

In the stretching area, performed a set of the recommended exercises from the physio. Fished up with a minute plank.

Mapping 1:40:00 [1]

Updating Nakkertok for the ski map. Retracing the trail system with the new LiDAR base and GPS tracks I had created during the summer with the ATV.
N-S tracks not bad, E-W not so much. As usual, the corners were not well defined. Guess I was driving too fast.
Met up with lots of ski friends including the chief of the trail crew who told me that they had just opened up more than a kilometre of old snowmobile trail in the NE.
First real hike since the hip-op. Happy but pooped. Looking forward to getting in shape for the ski season.

Strength training 30:00 [2]

Lat pull down machine 4*10 reps at 25, bicep pullback 4*10 reps with 25 lbs.
Chest press machine 4*10 rests at 35 pounds. All weights were reduced from the pre-op sessions but I am still stiff from 6 weeks of very little upper body exercise. Cody will have a plan to step up the effort.

Stretch & Strength 30:00 [2]

Performed the updayed set of hip area stretch and strength exercises prescribed by the physio that I should be doing at least twice a day.
The time logged includes about 10 minutes of warmup exercises for the shoulders and back before working with the strength machines.

Wanted to follow this up with a short swim to see what my Swimming muscles feel like but the pool was closed. So was the hot tub. Phooey.

Stationary Bike 12:00 [1]

Note

The surgeon cleared me of any restrictions towards the recouperation of my new hip. So after 6 weeks of gentle exercise and stretching it’s time to get serious about getting back to normal. Whatever that is. Haven’t been normal for 3 years.
First, it’s mandatory to get full strength back into the hip and leg. No idea how long that might take but the physio should help me with that. See her in 10 days, meanwhile I will just slowly extend the current exercise plan together with the cardio components. Right now that’s exercise bike and treadmill. Will add swimming in slowly.
Will sign up for another 32 sessions with Cody, my PT at
Movati. Nothing like putting your money down to keep the motivation up.

Walking 11:00 [1]

Running may never again be an option according to the surgeon so I am going to have to learn to walk really fast. The old lower leg referral pain starts to come back at about 10 minutes. Find that very disconcerting. So there is more to this hip issue than a new joint!
