Note

Lots of walking around the botanical gardens in Hamilton, NZ. Incredible exhibitions of international and historical garden designs. They can grow anything in this climate - tropical plants and cold weather varieties. One section had every citrus tree that I could think of growing virtually side by side. The vegetable gardens are growing their second crops of carrots, onions, etc. Was chased out by the rain.
What a fantastic sprint map it would make worth all the hedges, walls, flower beds, and topography. Will have to research the local club to see if there is a map.

Long hike from the beach house along the beach and up Mt. Paku. Back down through the village for a beer and lunch before heading home. Very nice. Very tired.

Several mini beach and bush walks on the Coromandel east shore. Tried the hot water beach but that was silly. Too many people digging holes at one prime spot. Could hardly move. Hiked to a couple of beautiful cliff tops for views of Mercury bay. Landing point for Cook in 1780. Beautiful scenery every where.

Three separate walks of about an hour. Two bush walks in the broken hills to find the old gold mines and battery's. Bonus was meeting up with some modern prospectors reworking one of the tunnels as sort of a retirement project. The other was an evening exploratory beach walk here in Tairua.

Didn't time the 2 beach walks but they were casual. Winds howling from the east turned the surf at high tide into a roaring spectacle of white. Between the wind, surf and rain I woke up many times in the night. Looking forward to a proper hike tomorrow.

Beautiful walk around Hamilton lake in NZ. A bit of a zombie from the long flight but it was nice to get some exercise. Already eating and drinking in holiday mode. Off to the beach tomorrow.
