Stationary Bike 30:00 [3]

Bad scheduling has me spinning for only 30 minutes and a stretch before dinner at Dave & Madeleine's. Gain 4 pounds on roast lamb and all the trimmings.

Wednesday Feb 27, 2013 #

Note

Forty minutes of shovelling the wettest, heavyest snow all season. And it's still coming down! Hopefully it will stay cold enough so the XC skiing is OK for my ski-O on Sunday!

Stationary Bike 50:00 [3]

Good sweaty spin to my favorite 70's rock. Feeling good except for my old Plantar Fasciitis that has suddenly popped up. Now in my right foot. Where the heck did that come from? Back to the ice and sock.

Walking 50:00 [1]

Brisk walk around Revelstoke & good stretch after. Mild weather is wrecking the canal. May try a ski to-morrow.

Walking 2:10:00 [1]

Very brisk snow-shoe up to the checkpont I was maning for the Weber Loppet. I was determined to get there before the first skier came through. Was soaking wet and had no change of undergarments but it was mild and windless so I was fine. Took my time on the way back to shout encouragement to the long course skiers like Jennie. All in all a very nice event but I was tired and the hip was buzzing from dragging the snowshoes and wet snow up the hills. Had to shorten my stride to keep the hip happy.

Walking 50:00 [1]

Brisk walk on the Revelstoke loop and a good stretch afterwards. Stiff from yesterday's massage. Weight was 159 - above expected level. Blame it on Mumsey's good cooking.

Thursday Feb 21, 2013 #

Note

Travis the massage therapist beat up on my glutes, back and quads. So I will take it easy for the rest of the day.

Stationary Bike 45:00 [2]

Easy spin watching the tube. Howling winds outside killed any desire for a walk or skate.
Stretch and strength afterwards.

Skating - canal 1:02:00 [2] 16.0 km (3:53 / km)

First skate on the canal this season. The cracked blade holder held out for one more session. Surface was a bit rough in the south part but downtown was better. Kept up a steady pace for most of the skate and never out of Zone 1. Hips/glutes complained a bit but nothing serious. We will see what happens when I try to push it a bit on another session.

XC Skiing 1:25:00 [2]

Beautiful ski from P19 to Lusk with Mumsey, Jennie, and a bunch of friends. Kept up a steady pace on the uphills, double poled the flats to rest my legs. No sore bits afterwards - just nicely tired out.
Bonus was geting home in time to see the Senators win over the Devils!

Walking 2:30:00 [1]

Actually snow shoeing at Nakkertok tracing new SS trails to the north.
It will open up a rather thick area to more orienteering with those distinct/indistinct SS trails now providing access to those new areas. Will probably increase the Adventure run map by 40%. There are only select areas that are open enough for fun & detailed orienteering. Wes, the trail breaker, has found remnants of three small iron ore mines in the area. They have been well covered as we could not see any evidece of a mine at two spots on his rough map. Always wanted a mine on one of my maps!

Walking 55:00 [1]

Brisk walk with Mumsey on the Revelstoke 5K loop. Cold but sunny.
Good stretch & strength afterwards.
Diet is low-carb so feeling hungry a lot of the time between meals. Trying to drink a lot of water and herb teas to stay sated but constantly thinking of my next meal.

Note

Just back from 19 days in South America - mostly on a cruise ship around Cape Horn from Buenos Aires to Santiago. As expected, any real training was spotty at best, but I did do a lot of planned walking & stretching. Measured and mapped the Promenade deck. 7.5 laps was 5 Km. In the last week I briskly walked those laps every day with company for most of the 55 minutes or so it took me to complete the exercise. A couple of times I went to the gym to stretch afterwards but it was so busy it was more comfortable to do the stretch/strength routine in the cabin.

It's hard not to overeat when there is so much good food available all the time and as part of a social group of overeaters - many of whom really put on the pounds during the cruise. I was very selective in my choice of food, staying away from most breads, desserts, fried foods, etc. But volume was hard to control. Weight this morning was only two pounds over my average during the week before the trip. Not bad.

Will aim to lose seven pounds over the next three weeks and get back into the daily exercise routine.
