Orienteering race (GOC long distance) 1:31:07 [5] 9.8 km (9:18 / km) +580m 7:10 / km
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D ultra

Long distance event at Welteverden aka "Berg van die Tier"...

Started conservatively, as I didnt was to blow near the end. Nav was fine, and found some game paths to run on here and there. Looking at the map afterwards, my route choices were not the best at some places. Overshot #12 (went too far east) and was too far south at #17. Lost a good 1-2 mins at each. Tripped an fell hard between 7 and 8, and hobbled off with a very sore Left big-toe. (On further inspection some hours later, it is badly swollen and bruised, bloody sore! - suspect it could be broken...)

Had a fair run in the end, but in hinds-sight should have started faster, as I had some left in the tank at the end. Came 5th overall, only 13 sec behind Gary in 4th and less than a minute to Colin in 3rd. Could have got a podium... Damn!! Alex and Ake blitzed us by about 7 mins.

Considering taking O a little more seriously and doing a few more colour-coded events. Really enjoyed both GOC events!

Mountain Bike 1:18:45 [3] 20.52 km (15.6 kph) +135m
shoes: GT Zaskar Team 2007

Promised Gratia I would ride with her in the afternoon. Took 5mins to slowly (and painfully) put my left shoe on, as my big-toe was now very swollen! Took a chilled pace along the railway line east then west and back past Skeerpoort. Gratia's free-wheel body is given serious issues, so cut the ride short.

Orienteering race (GOC middle distance ) 36:26 [5] 4.4 km (8:17 / km) +150m 7:04 / km
shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D ultra

Middle distance champs at Phambili. My first O event in about 8 months. Felt good and went out fast. Caught Mike at #5. Was slightly too low at #6. Mike and I swapped places until 10, where he took a wrong angle to #11 and I got away. Tried to run where I could, despite the very rocky ground! Nav was fine all the way (except a few seconds at #6). Pushed hard from #15 to the end.

Finished 2nd overall behind Brad, and a few seconds ahead of Alex. Really stoked with my run!! :-)
