Orienteering race 2:44:50 [3] ****
shoes: Inov 8s - Oroc 280s

Absolutely bolloxed after my first outing in a forest for a while!

Was feeling my legs before I'd even started today - yesterday took a lot out of me and it was raining! Who likes traditional Orienteering honestly?

Obviously got myself in the wrong headspace for this race today as took very tentative roundabout routes to the majority of controls, but was in control for the most of it - ran out of juice towards the end and had been taking it pretty steady throughout so need to work on my stamina again as it seems to have slipped...

Did manage to pick it up though when I jumped on the Eddie and Ben Stevens train but realised I hadn't looked at the map once while I was tucked behind them for two controls, so dropped off the back to focus on the long leg, cause if they'd got away from me I'd have been screwed.

Messed up due to fatigue 3 controls from the end, but happy to finish another elite course - even if I was pretty close to the bottom (beta Lost and HWW who gave up so that's something)

Was pretty cold at the end and fingers weren't working so couldn't even do my trousers up or put my socks on - dramas

Enjoyed though even caught myself smiling once or twice!

NB: just reviewed splits browser and was never really in the race, could have picked up a few spots, but not really in the same race as those above me, but was clear of those behind me for the whoel race - question is do I continue to run Elite in the forest just cause I can, or step back down a level so its actually competitive?

Orienteering race 59:33 [5]
shoes: Sauconys Guide 4s

3rd Time of inputting - so short - not a bad run, legs were tired from the start and feeling run down.

Biggest two errors were worth 2 min each went into the barbican too early on 6-7 and although executed perfectly running along the road would be better and dipping in at the end. Then lost 2 16-17 due to lack of concentration...

Managed to twist my ankle but ran it off eventually.

Good race and well planned - came top 20 - possibly higher once you DQ all those who crossed the OOB road ;-)

Happy

NB - been reviewing my routegadget and splits for this and could have easily been much higher up even negating mistakes, during the first half I was considerably slower than i could have been.

Good training put on by Paul - clsoest to race format yet, so had to be careful that i put myself under enough pressure to force the decisions like a race but without actually smashing myself.

Was a bit wobbly at the start, but settled in ok, need to amke sure I put my magnifyier back on for the weekend as struggled to see enough detail at times, but made some ok route choices and the use of the descriptions was key.

However definitely got a clod or a bug or something as couldn't keep the pace up and was laboured throughout. Must now resta nd get decent sleep and food before sat/sun to try and shift it.

To that end, still went for a pint with uskiwi, jayne, Ed, pete and new boy Ludovic whos eems mentally keen. was good though and cycled hoem after 1....
