shoes: Inov 8s - Oroc 280s

Cracking race

Tried to get my head down at about 2300hrs knowing I'd have to get up in the early hours to run.

Not to be through a combination of SHUOCs quiet starting horn, Rhesus texting me while following leg 1 online in the legs and Nick Taylor coming back to the tent way over excited about the GPS tracking of leg one - I couldn't help myself so got up to watch the start of the B Race.

And that was the end of sleep for me, very addictive watching the GPS and tracking the team movements as they hit each of the radio controls.

Then for my run Leg 5 for the 1st team on the A - A reinstatement after my two years in the wild after my previous outing bewign so disatarous.

Dimitry brought the team in just shy of the BOK and SYO 2nd team so went out trying to hold our position - 1st half went quite well, tucke din just behind the SYO guy and spent upto the road crossing taking it in turns to hit the control - thus removing the hesitation I normally have at this stage - this ended when I got cocky and thought I'd drop the Irish International in question cause he was slowing down a bit and blew Cntrl 16 - the paths finally outfoxed me after being warned about them for the whole night - after that ran a bit hesitanmtly not being able to afford any more errors, but ended up losing approx 16min overall due to speed/mistakes.... meaning BAOC gained 8 min on us overall.

Howeve rthat said still a damn good race for me and one I'm generally happy with - just need to improve my forest navigation as speed is coming.

Urban O race (Dore Urban Race) 42:10 [4] ***
shoes: Lunar glides 2 1st pair

Good little Urban race this - good use of the area, showing what can be done on what initially looks untechnical.

Came in 7th which wasn't bad considering dead on my feet after the Harvester.

After analysing routegadget main reason not higher (could have made 4th I think) wa sthe two long legs into 6 and into 21 where very poor routechoice led to 2 min of loss, other than that fairly happy and have decided that runnign only 1 contact lense sis a no no as although ok have to slow down/stop to make out little paths sometimes

Enjoyed

Park Race race (Crystal palace Park race) 24:08 [4] **
shoes: Lunar glides 2 1st pair

Not a bad race - but made quite a few line errors - probably due to nav inaccuracy - actually thinking that wearing one contact lense made the map reading difficult so might have to resort to glasses for next week (this was confirmed at the harvester at Dore where fine detailed reading was difficult at speed)

Map was super dodgy too although this affected everyone... other excuses include going out too early and waking controls up and having no-one to guide me into controls - probably didn't make a huge difference as still 1 min down on Nick in 3rd.

Came 4th overall though so moved me up to 2nd overall in the league with Eds absence and Toms iffy run
