Orienteering - Street (Warmup 1 - Mayfield) 45:02 [3] 8.17 km (5:31 / km)
shoes: Saucony March 2015
Street Orienteering is BACK!
So I abandoned my winter substitute of 4:30 pm Pump Class followed by 6 pm Pure Run in Newcastle.
I skipped this event last year after deciding against running in the pouring rain and lightening.
Route 3B 2E 1N 1L 3D 1P 1R 2H 1T 2K 1W 2L 1U 3E 1S 2J 1G 2G 1M 2D 1H 2A 3D
for 23 Controls / 39 Points (1 point x 11, 2 point x 8, 3 point x 4) in 45:02 so -1 point.
First trial use of the sport ident system for Start / Finish which will make the pressure on the finish desk much less which will be great.
Macey got 51 points so 38/51 = 74.5% which I am happy with.
Also ankle only screamed for about 2 seconds once in the last 10 minutes.
Not particularly efficient route but elected to get everything west of the start.
I was happy to get all that in 39 minutes and elected to push after my planned last control 2A to try for either 3A or 3A-1A (rather than come back early).
Despite the frantic sprint at the end arrived 2 seconds late but was worth it for another 2 points!
It would have been more efficient if got 1R between 2J and 1G rather than between 1P and 2H.
In advance I wrote myself a checklist of all the gear I need for Street-O and will make myself up a little pack for the car.
Experimented with my iPhone MapMyRun App with :
a. 2 minute delayed activation. So start at beginning of map read time and then it autostarts (this meant a slight difference between start time and 'punch start time' which I was relying on to save me from being late today).
b. Making it announce every 5 minutes (rather than every 1 km) to remind me how I was travelling.
c. Making the screen stay on rather than allowing the screen saver kick in. This previously did not work ... but did now.
Will see what other settings I can alter.
Making the time display bigger would be nice.
Nice chat with a range of people for 45 minutes afterwards.
