8 AM

Note

Arrived early to help out with equipment set-up.
Tents, tables, clocks, score board etc.

My reward was to start early around 9:15 am prior to the official start of 9:30 am.
9 AM

Orienteering - Bush (HV Champs - Balickera) 1:03:58 [3] 6.67 km (9:35 / km)
13c shoes: Salomons June 2014

Hard Medium. 13 Controls. Nominal 4.5 km.

No dramas for #1, #2, #4, #5, #7, #8, #9, #10 and #13.

For #3 was on the wrong track running below the control surrounded by green (rather than the track running above the control). Worked it out and then bush bashed W to creek and control.

#6 Went NW and ended up too far N so hit creek and then came out on track above. Just went W until track split in two and then direct S from there to correct.

#11 was in the correct spot just had to come in from the NE side the get through the thick vegetation.

Made a total mess of #12. Was too far south in all the thick lantana. Came out 3 times and tried again and again. 16:17 on one control which will probably be worst split of anyone for this control on the entire day.

At least I wasn't thinking of anything else when I was running.
10 AM

Orienteering - Bush (HV Champs - Balickera) 32:59 [3] 3.94 km (8:22 / km)
12c shoes: Salomons June 2014

Hard Short course 2nd run.
12 Controls. Nominal 3.4 km.
Probably the fastest time of any competitor on this course but doesn't count as my 2nd.

Controls #2, #3, #8, #9 and #12 duplicated from prior course.
No dramas.

Cut knee on low tree stump on way to #4 and there seemed to be a lot of blood but was minor when I cleaned it off in the shower afterwards.
Approached #8 from different direction.
For #9 did not replicate mistake from earlier course and headed west to hit the top branches of water course and then straight to control.

On way to #11 ran straight past Control #176 (#12 from prior course) that caused me so many problems.

At least I wasn't thinking of anything else when I was running.
2 PM

Gardening - General 1:30:00 [1]

Legs too sore from exercise and cuts to go out and do anymore.
Fallen stick collection after all the heavy winds.
About 5 wheelbarrows worth. Need to have a burn off when the wind dies down later in week.

Walk - Bush (Solo - Emerald Pool) 2:47:51 [1] 11.85 km (14:10 / km)
shoes: Bumblebee Hikers Feb 2014

Bush walking day.
Stayed at twin brothers at Arcadia Vale overnight so I could get an early start.

Drove down M1 and then via Peats Ridge Road and Wisemans Ferry Road.

Emerald Pool circuit from Ironbark Road.
Never saw another human being on entire walk.
The 5 km track in was not very inspiring but the pool was very impressive.
Water very clear so could see the bottom easily and with a faint greenish tinge.
The loop track back was closed due to erosion but I walked along it anyway rather than backtracking.

Walk - Bush (Solo - Palm Grove) 1:02:04 [1] 4.15 km (14:57 / km)
shoes: Bumblebee Hikers Feb 2014

Palm Grove Nature Reserve.
Very scenic with lots of palms, rocks, birds nest ferns etc.
Very steep - more than 194 m climb down.
Could have kept going but had climbed down to bottom of valley and turned around after 2 km rather than continuing up the hill the other side.

Walk - Bush (Solo - Somersby Falls) 20:25 [1] 1.0 km (20:25 / km)
shoes: Bumblebee Hikers Feb 2014

Somersby Falls.
Wasn't on the original plan but finished early and saw a sign saying it was only 13 km away so decided to check it out.
Very spectacular - not sure why I haven't made it to these before.

And after 16 km of walking today still never managed to switch my brain and thoughts off for a single minute. Still looking for a solution.
