Note
(rest day)

Drizzly day so lazed around didn't get out of bed until after 12 pm.
Back to reality of work again from Monday.

10 AM

Gardening - General 1:30:00 [1]

Whipper snipping continued.
Dog yard, behind shed in back bush 3.5 acres, started on bush tracks.
11 AM

Note

Another round of experimental cooking.
Chocolate rum mousse - haven't made these in at least 15 years.
Being a non drinker this must the be first bottle of alcohol I have bought in 20 years. The smell of rum in the kitchen was very strong. Since I could only find a 700 ml bottle at 2 1/2 table spoons a time going to take a long time to use up.
Adding ovaltine on top, instead of chocolate sprinkles, proved to not be a good idea.
Overall another method to restore my weight loss.
From Miscellaneous

Chocolate slice - version 2 with 20% less butter as version 1 was too slimey. Still tastes too sickly compared to the original, despite following the same recipe, so no idea what I am doing wrong yet.

Gardening - General 2:00:00 [1]

Stick collection down the back.
3 to 4 wheel barrows.

Run - Miscellaneous 35:48 [3] 6.0 km (5:58 / km)
shoes: New Balance Nov 2013

Slow run to get legs moving again after Easter.
Think I am probably back close to normal weight after all the chocolate and meals whilst away.
I will check next Tuesday at gym

7 AM

Gardening - General 30:00 [1]

7:30 am - 8:00 am
Yard looks somewhat abandonned.

Last mowed 29th March and only did the front yard.
In fact haven't mowed much of the back yard since 21st December 2013 so 4 months starting to push it - not knee high but looking unkempt.
If mow now it will probably last through most of winter.

Fallen stick collection prior to mowing.
8 AM

Gardening - Mowing (#31 28.4 hrs - 29.0 hrs) 45:00 [1]

Backyard between house and shed (amongst septic sprinklers).
Along back of house.
60 % of downhill side front yard prior to breakdown.

Managed to break the first sacrificial shear pin in ages when mower partially clogged on dewy gress - probably at least a year since last broke one. Have spares and they only about $1 each and take less than 5 minutes to changeout. Better than smashing up the gearbox.

I knew mowing damp grass is problematic but thought it was short enough that I may get away with it.
9 AM

Gardening - Mowing (#32 29.0 hrs - 30.0 hrs) 1:00:00 [1]

Finishing off the remainder of yard.

Opposite shed.
Remaining unfinished downhill side area of front yard.
Uphill side area of front yard (clipped a rock with blades which was somewhat spectacular but should be avoided)
Clothes line area.

Went through nearly 10 litres of fuel so will have to get more prior to continuing in case I run out with the mower out a long way from the shed.
10 AM

Gardening - General 1:30:00 [1]

Whippersnipping around all trees, lawn edges, spoon drains, council nature strip etc.
Yard looking neater but still have hours more to complete entire block.
12 PM

Note

2 hours back dating log for the last week over Easter.

Walk - Bush (Solo - Fern Tree Gully #1) 1:00:00 [2] 3.0 km (20:00 / km)
shoes: Bumblebee Hikers Feb 2014

Slow return drive to Newcastle.

Time and distance approximate.
Saw sign for this on the Friday drive down and one of our club members told me it was worth a look.
From Easter 2014

IGNORE THIS SIGN!!!!
Drove down a first signposted road (which wasn't the same one) and the road got more and more terrible. Rocky, great big tree roots and muddy. Was sure I was going to bog or destroy my 2WD wagon. But no turn around points so drove on expecting to regret it. Came to a locked gate so had to turn around in the bush and backtrack.

Drove down second better signposted road which was gravel and suitable.

Stopped at first walk and did a loop. There was stinging nettles growing either side of the track and they really hurt brushing through them. Touched one with my left thumb and it was still numb over 4 hours later. Thought some of the rock faces were pretty dramatic but this was nothing on the 2nd walk to come.

Walk - Bush (Solo - Fern Tree Gully #2) 1:30:00 [2] 4.0 km (22:30 / km)
shoes: Bumblebee Hikers Feb 2014

Time and distance approximate.
From Easter 2014

Walking down into the gully with rock faces either side of you was spectacular.
Seeing figs roots wrapped around the cliff faces hanging on for life was amazing.
Views from the top, looking out over where I had just been, was stunning.
Well worth the drive from Newcastle just to visit this area.

Walk - Bush (Solo - Phipps Cutting Pic) 25:00 [2]
shoes: Bumblebee Hikers Feb 2014

Time and distance approximate.

Hiked up the hill to look out over the valley.
From Easter 2014

Explored a few tracks but held off from clambering over boulders and up cliffs since was solo and no one knew where I was.

Walk - Bush (Solo - Newnes) 1:00:00 [2] 2.5 km (24:00 / km)
shoes: New Balance Nov 2013

Paid for extra day at the cabin. 3 days off work so taking my time.
Drove from Glen Alice Farm to Newnes.

Time and distance approximate.
Explored all the derelict buildings from shale oil refining abandonned in 1931. Seeing the mature trees growing through the centre of buildings was a bit of an eye opener.

Walk - Bush (Solo - Glow Worm Tunnel) 3:00:00 [3] 8.0 km (22:30 / km)
shoes: New Balance Nov 2013

8 km loop from Wolgan Valley up to Glow Worm Tunnels and return.

About 1 km steep climb then walking along the long abandonned railway track. The Glow Worm tunnels made the tunnel on Newcastles Fernleigh Track look like a toy. Lots of people with headlights, torches and mobile phones. Glow Worms not as prolific as I have seen in prior caving expeditions ... probably due to there frequent exposure to people. Loop walk down the pagodas.

Fantastic sunny day.

Orienteering - Bush (Easter Day 3 - Cherry) 1:04:20 [4] 4.9 km (13:08 / km)
11c shoes: New Balance Nov 2013

Cherry Farm.
Course #10. 11 Controls. Nominal Distance 4.9 km.
Came 1st of the 3 Newcastle competitors beating Damien by 3:37 and meaning I scored a win on progressive score over the 3 days!
From Easter 2014

#1 NE down into valley. Ran into fence (literally) then north following fence to control.
#2 Contoured around. This wasted time running over rocks. Should have gone down into valley and come back up. Wasted more than 1 minute looking around rock for control. According to winsplits this is my major loss.
#3 Decided to go up next valley to SW and then come down. This was a mistake as very overgrown and slow - should have taken the longer route S and then around.
#4 No issues
#5 No issues
#6 No issues
#7 No issues
#8 Back W to #3 then up to top of hill and then W to power pole. Then NW to control.
#9 SW to track corner. Contoured S but went too far W and missed major track. Came down to hit fence. Got confused and followed valley down to about 2nd termite mound then decided to go back W to fence to relocate to control. Caught up with Damien who started 4 minutes ahead of me and we then both realised it was now a SPRINT as he had to hold me off or lose both today and the championship (he had lost 7 minutes compared to me on Control #8). We both found #9 and then it was on! Adrenlyn kicked in despite being tired.
#10 Sprint W down hill to control.
#11 Sprint SW but I missed it and had to backtrack.
Finish.
