Ride from Morrow to Waynesville on the bike path. Very pretty. Overhanging trees most of the way. {edit: I actually went to Corwin, across the river from Waynesville.}
I saw a gap in the radar that I estimated was 3 hours. It took me a full hour to pack and drive to Morrow. When I saw earlier in the week that the rain was probably going to miss us, I seemed to do everything you do to jinx yourself. I said, "Oh, it looks like the best rain is going to miss us." And that wasn't working, so I decided to use the entire 3 hour window. I'd probably stop for a break and end up riding back in the rain. I was actually hoping that it would happen. I figured the rail trail is down in the valley along the river, so lightning wouldn't be a big risk.
So I had some bike computer problems. The thing is like 15 years old, so what could possibly be wrong with it? I had the Garmin 305 along also. I need to set up the displays more like the bike computer. I also ordered the Garmin bike speed and cadence sensor ($36).
Anyway, on the way to Waynesville, I saw the
Little River Cafe in Oregonia, and I decided to stop on the way back. Again, to encourage that rain as much as possible. I got a Sam Adam's and some food. (This would be a good spot after a Hisey event.)
Oh, and I completely missed Hisey. No idea where it is along the route. {edit: Looks like it is where the trail crosses Corwin Rd for about 500m, just north of the big bridge that takes Caesar Creek into the Little Miami.}
After I got back to Morrow, I put the bike on the roof, drove to South Lebanon to scout a parking spot for a future ride (on the rail trail), then to Lowe's, but they didn't have the glue I needed (for Garmin projects), so I went to Mason's (where there was 1 in stock but none on the shelf), and then to West Chester's Lowe's where there were 8. Then home, in time to get 2 drops of rain on my windshield, and then the rain shower started as I was taking the bike off my car (so the car would fit in the garage).
It looks like we got a long, gentle soaking rain overnight. So---success!
