Orienteering race (3 Green Day 2) 1:28:00 [3] 5.6 km (15:43 / km)
13c shoes: 340 ORoc 2011

Control #1 missing, nailed it on careful approach, no bag, checked surrounding features, everything matched. Kristen showed up 3-4 minutes later, confirmed everything matched so on we went, in my case quite hesitantly.

Slow & cautious for a few but no issues, a little S of circle in the rocks on 5, maybe 90s lost. 6 fine but slow due to vision (wet glasses), 7 ok but very slow since I recognized great potential to blow it big time and vegetation made reading terrain dicey in my half blind state. #8 I attacked from knoll with boulder right into reentry but saw no flag checked a little south down to stream then worked back, reattacking from boulder and found it 2nd time - case of woods blindness.. 5min lost. Dropped down and found nice runnable woods just above lake shore and attacked from distinct knoll near small marsh, confirmed by visual to island. Slow up the hill but nailed it. Didn't see indistinct trail on map so rather than climb thru potentially vagus terrain I elected shortest route to campground and ran around cutting corner thru westernmost loop. Running fairly well on road and a brainless attack from below. Final three very routine slowed only by fatigue and some negotiation of greener bits in the way.

10 AM

Orienteering race (1 Green Day 1) 1:09:32 [3] 4.6 km (15:07 / km)
12c shoes: 340 ORoc 2011

Slow & steady, mostly walking the first 3/4 with minor bobbles - missed 3 left hit wall and back - 3min, #4 ok in circle then couldn't make sense of thingsthings - Boulder field more like a cliff and sure enough flag was down below it.. 90s. #7 got off trail wrong, missed to S of circle, saw marsh ahead and thought it was one to N and ventured S, when in fact it was marsh to E so I wound up 200m ssw before rectifying matters and backtracking - 5min. Open woods after that so picked up the pace a bit passing Mr Charlie near 9 looking pretty good himself for his various ailments... Glad to finish a course at Pawtuckaway without a major fail, particularly given my lack of time in woods this year.

Shin splints apparent later in the day. Short road runs in Hokas don't maintain all the proper fitness required for terrain running, that's for sure.
12 PM

Orienteering race (2 Yellow Day 1) 17:20 [5] 2.4 km (7:13 / km)
spiked:9/11c shoes: 340 ORoc 2011

Felt like a sprint, so headed out on Yellow. Good speed all around (for my current fitness that is). Bobbled 4 heading up reentrant as I had drawn my circle over the trail junction and didn't notice trail before control, assumed I missed N so ran S only to see beach in distance.. doh! Rather pissed at myself. Rest of course fine with good flow and speed through controls no full stops except 10 where I had to stop and look as the SI box was strapped to signpost 4 feet away from flag and not entirely obvious without a good look around..
