out the door for last minute Soapstone prep
6 AM

Run - Trail (Soapstone) 2:00:00 [2] 8.0 mi (15:00 / mi)
shoes: NB 790 {green}

Flagging the sampler, putting out signs, then more in the afternoon taking things down, retrieving signs etc...
9 AM

Run - Trail race (Soapstone Sampler) 28:11 [5] 5.85 km (4:49 / km) +100m 4:26 / km
shoes: NB 790 {green}

Sampler race - Have won the past two years, so a bit of pressure to continue the streak, but some fast older folks were off the line ahead of me (handicapped start) and I had my doubts about catching them. Very hard off the line to get away from younger predators behind me. Passing plenty of folks - probably over 80 - who had started before me. Passed the lead woman to move into 3rd for a bit, but she looked awfully strong so I pushed hard after passing her to try and put a gap, but she hung close. Paid for my effort as she passed me back just beyond the sandpit. Never saw the two leaders and settled for 4th place. Just under a minute slower than last year so perhaps if I were still in that kind of shape I might have reeled them in. But I didn't get passed by anyone (except the lead woman whom I had previously passed) so hopefully that counts for something.

Run - Trail long (Soapstone) 2:39:30 [3] 24.0 km (6:39 / km)
shoes: Roclite 312gtx

Ran the whole Soapstone course with Sony to make sure all is ready for Sunday's Soapstone Mountain Trail Races. Plenty of muddy spots, great new single track sections in the first loop, a fair flow in the streambed and I think Killer Hill got just a little steeper this year. But for the most part the course is very runnable with solid footing.

My Inov-8's are pretty much totally shot - so my feet were moving around in them far more than is healthy - feet pretty abused at this point. Also my glutes/hamstrings feeling quite sore. Only took one bottle with me (forgot to bring the second) and I really should have had two - that might account for the muscle aches.

But for the most part quite happy to have gotten out and run something long for a change - I probably wouldn't have persevered without company though.

Note

Just noted that today's run clears the 500 mile mark for me for running this year. Not too bad so far, particularly considering I've had a relatively longish spell without a lot of running due to the Lyme. I think I'm close to recovered again though. Will stay on the antibiotics a bit longer this time to make sure I don't relapse. (relapse really sucks...)

Hiking (trail work) 2:00:00 [1]
shoes: Roclite 312gtx

clearing some recent blowdowns on the course, touching up some markings and adding new ones on relocations. Painting over the old course markings on now disused sections of the course.

Gorgeous afternoon, but felt really sluggish in the woods. But had been fasting since yesterday for bloodwork, then just before heading into the woods I gorged on a Turkey sub that was probably way more than I should have eaten.

planned to ride bike - dang cold out though, will try to ride/run later. Calves still a bit sore from Sat. RP down still, but the G rebounded to it's usual spot - should have gone w/ plan A at dinner yesterday and had the Greek salad instead of the monster tortellini dish.
