Mid-day run at work. Ran over to the new Hillside Environmental Education Center (ie the old landfill turned parking lot) which has some new nature trails around a marsh to the North. The nature trail was obviously cut in early spring through very, very rough open and has grown up quite a bit over the summer. Passable, but quite rough going. The latter wooded sections were better footing, but not well worn and would have been hard to follow if not for the new flagging tape hung. once the tapes distintegrate, the trail will be harder to follow. Every trail is simple marked 'Nature Trail' - no differentiation between any of them so choosing which way to go took a little head scratching, but luckily there were a few overview maps out there that one could deduce where one was and choose a route. Eventually hooked up to a broad jeep road which took me over to Shelter Falls park which I did the usual route (been a long time since I've been there though). Then back and took the jeep road all the way up the hill to Charter Oak apartments - comes at about the 43-45 minute mark in the run and a long steady uphill grade - good workout. Then down along the road to nowhere (running in rough cut grass) to Subway to get my lunch. According to the GPS from my building, full route and ending at Subway was exactly 10km. Never felt terribly energetic, but felt really good to be out on trails after a very long hiatus. And my new shoes felt real fine....
