Been looking for them for a couple weeks now, no idea where they've migrated to. So ordered up a couple more since they were on sale in the REI outlet. And they shipped this afternoon. Which means my old ones should come out of hiding tomorrow...

Cold, wet & miserable out. Not a day conducive to field checking. So off for some shared misery with the Amigos. Since it was raining I skipped wearing glasses, not really needed for rail trail, right? Well a bit past 6 miles I managed to find something to fall over... went down hard on what is essentially coarse, wet sandpaper. Me thinks its going to be a stiff afternoon.

Mostly mapping various bits of trail system that were not on the current basemap - over 5500m of new trails added. A little bit of off-trail, but mostly trails. And looking for Bella, a pregnant sheep that has been missing in the area for the past couple days. A few sightings yesterday among the trail running crowd, but no success in getting her home yet.

Hoping to go to the NRE at Oak Ridge in just under 8 weeks as it looks like the closest thing to a National Event since the virus broke. But at the moment VA is on the CT 'No-Go' list. As is most of the rest of the country...

Area with lots of undergrowth - challenge to delineate somewhat vague edges and deciding on the threshold where runnability would fall off by 20% - both due the slowness of veg and micro route choices through spottier bits. Woods more open than they were three weeks ago and they were pretty darn open then. And streams are running again. Took some different routes today so although it would have been pretty hard to screw up in the circle, the in between areas could have been an issue. But they weren't, a good day out. Ran about as hard as current fitness allows. New shoes felt good on the problem foot, but seem to flex weird on L foot, may just need to break it in.

Took 40 minutes off my previous effort on Sept 20.

Pretty decent hill area, lots of laurel and slippery freshly fallen oak leaves. Not a good combination, kept slipping and falling in the 2nd hand road shoes with no tread.
