Run - Trail (Shelter Falls) 53:23 [3] 10.0 km (5:20 / km) +165m 4:56 / km
rhr:45 (sick) shoes: NB 474

BSP > along cemetary > Charter Oak Suites > Shelter Falls

felt like a decent run, pushing the pace a few times. Measured the climb back up to Charter Oak - 800m, 40m climb - but forgot to hit my watch - about a 4 minute climb - suffering by the top. Might use this as a climbing benchmark. Good day to get out of work for a while.

Run - Road (DM Auto) 18:00 [3] 3.86 km (4:40 / km) +70m 4:17 / km
rhr:50 (sick) shoes: Puma Sierra Trail Racers

Ran up to Doug's to retrieve the van which was in for service. Felt tough on the uphills, rest was ok, but the Puma's are getting pretty beat - I felt my feet hitting the pavement with every step.

Run - Trail (HEEC > Shelter Falls) 53:49 [3] 10.0 km (5:23 / km) +125m 5:04 / km

Mid-day run at work. Ran over to the new Hillside Environmental Education Center (ie the old landfill turned parking lot) which has some new nature trails around a marsh to the North. The nature trail was obviously cut in early spring through very, very rough open and has grown up quite a bit over the summer. Passable, but quite rough going. The latter wooded sections were better footing, but not well worn and would have been hard to follow if not for the new flagging tape hung. once the tapes distintegrate, the trail will be harder to follow. Every trail is simple marked 'Nature Trail' - no differentiation between any of them so choosing which way to go took a little head scratching, but luckily there were a few overview maps out there that one could deduce where one was and choose a route. Eventually hooked up to a broad jeep road which took me over to Shelter Falls park which I did the usual route (been a long time since I've been there though). Then back and took the jeep road all the way up the hill to Charter Oak apartments - comes at about the 43-45 minute mark in the run and a long steady uphill grade - good workout. Then down along the road to nowhere (running in rough cut grass) to Subway to get my lunch. According to the GPS from my building, full route and ending at Subway was exactly 10km. Never felt terribly energetic, but felt really good to be out on trails after a very long hiatus. And my new shoes felt real fine....

Didn't get out running - another long day at work, then took the kids to get new shoes for school - starts tomorrow. what the heck, while we're buying shoes, lets spring for a new pair of trail runners. And a few sets of laces for all the shoes currently sitting on the sidelines with busted laces.

Now I just need to take all those shoes out for some long overdue exercise...

Run - Road (Hare & back (in the dark)) 21:14 [3] 4.7 km (4:31 / km)
weight:77.1kg (sick) shoes: Adidas Response Trail 14

Out the dirt road and back after putting the kids to bed. Had the red bike light with me to warn off approaching cars and to highlight the occasional crater in the road left by the sub-morons doing hole shots. Nice night to run - 10:07 out, 11:07 back. A nice 25 minutes just sitting on the back deck cooling down staring at the stars too... lots of bats out tonight (ok, most nights)

Combination of working a 3 week straight stretch - (my summer help is done for the season, I haven't hired/trained my new fall staff yet and my full time staff is on rotating vacations the past couple of weeks) and just being too damn tired when I get home (probably due in part to the continuing Lyme) I just haven't gotten out the door to do much of anything.

New semester starts tomorrow, will try and force myself into a new regime and get some sort of activity in each day. Kids start school on Wednesday.

And less than 5 weeks to North American's - better get my self in some sort of shape...

Off to meet my new cardiologist tomorrow AM (old one retired in June). This is one of the newer doctors in the same practice, we'll see how I like him...

Bike - Recumbent (Lake & back) 25:00 [0] 6.0 km (4:10 / km)
(sick) shoes: Slipstream

easy ride out to the lake with Hayden after work.

Run - Road (SLR 5k) 23:47 [3] 5.0 km (4:45 / km)
weight:80.3kg (sick) shoes: Adidas Response Trail 14

8am run - gorgeous day, kept having to slow myself down since I want to stick to easy efforts for a while since my immune system is whacked.

Hiking (Belding) 1:00:00 [0]
shoes: Adidas Response Trail 14

Late afternoon walk with the family. Very pedestrian pace...

Another 3 weeks of Doxycycline, drew more blood to retest for Ehrlichiosis and Babesiosis. Doctor thinks I may have a coinfection along with the Lyme.

Run - Trail (Crandalls) 40:38 [3] 6.5 km (6:15 / km) +170m 5:32 / km
(sick) shoes: Adidas Response Trail 14

Would have been an easy day to blow it off - low 60's, showery. But dragged my stuff out and hit the trail 5 minutes after the park officially opened at 6am. No one else there. Duh.

When I pulled in I could see that the upper part of the hill was shrouded in clouds, had a very White Mountains feel to it. Pretty dim in the woods at this hour and under these conditions and particularly up on the mountain it was tough to see footing clearly at times. Outer loop CCW, managed to run the entire hill with no walking or wagon steps in under 10 minutes which is pretty decent for me when I am in shape. Decided I was feeling good so headed off on some lesser trod trails to the NW, wound up off the map (not that I had one) in some swampy back yards and bushwacked across to where I knew where I was and ran off trail for 7-8 minutes until picking the trail system back up.

Felt surprisingly brisk for my lack of exercise though I'm sure the real pace will be rather disappointing. But I got out and it wasn't a total suffer fest...

Run - Road (SLR 5km) 22:51 intensity: (13:25 @3) + (9:26 @4) 5.0 km (4:34 / km)
shoes: Adidas Response Trail 14

Needed to get out - Lyme still leaving me feeling pretty wasted, but decided to see if I could get out to the Hare road turnaround (2.35) in less than 10 minutes, which used to be a benchmark. Lately its been closer to 11 minutes. Did it in 9:26 at a solid level 4 pace, felt good, but certainly not maintainable at that pace. Decided at the turnaround to run up Hare a bit to the 2.5km mark and then turnaround to make it an even 5km. Sluggish level 3 all the way back - but no real aches or pains (yet).

Most of my staff on vacation next week, so no real need to get in ultra early to get stuff done - its going to be pretty quiet and rainy anyway - so I may try to leave early, do a loop at Crandalls and then head in from there.

Hiking (Lake and back) 1:50:00 [0]
shoes: Adidas Response Trail 14

Walked out to the lake with the kids - boys 'fished' for a while (that's a euphemism for installing fishing gear in various overhead locations), then walked back. Very slow pace as Hayden in particular is a pretty pokey walker, but a fine day to be out and much better than hanging around in the house all morning...

My only training for last week is about to fall off the chart - I guess I should endeavor to do something remotely like training this afternoon - but probably won't get to it... Maybe a bike ride with Hayden after the thunderstorms roll through...

Run - Road (Cervens & back) 43:00 intensity: (30 @1) + (41:00 @3) + (1:30 @4) 8.75 km (4:55 / km) +65m 4:44 / km
(sick) shoes: Adidas Response Trail 14

Nice morning - 68F, sunny, kind of humid. A non-stellar run - definitely not more than a level 3, but really didn't have anything more (still). After completing the dirt road section coming back, I opted to do a series of phone pole intervals just to pick up the pace and open up the stride - they felt good, but wouldn't have been able to do these for very long - I think I did 4 of them just before arriving back home. 10:50 for the 2.35 out to Hare on the outbound. Fairly even splits (not counting the last bit) and same overall pace as last time out.
