Rogaine (Lust of the Mohicans) 9:47:28 [3] 47.15 km (12:28 / km)

1:30am - Second loop of race. Took off about 25 minutes after Two Guys From Queens - realized they likely already had more points under their belts but pushed to try to close the gap anyway. Managed to shave 2-3 minutes per leg until we finally overtook them in really thick undergrowth near #93. They had relocated and we found the flag first, but they caught us before we left the control about 30 minutes before dawn. Pretty much ran roads and trails with them enroute to next control until dawn broke, then Glen & I ran on while they walked. The last few hours were painful, but we knew we could get them all and hoped for a top 5 spot. But TGFQ missed #37 and Pissant came in about 12 minutes after us which left us in the first place spot - a first for both Glen and I. Detailed report on Rogaine Website later this week (or by email if you care) [Estes]

Rogaine (Lust of the Mohicans) 10:11:41 [3] 40.44 km (15:08 / km)

12:00 - First loop of rogaine. Did a cw loop of southern portion of map leaving a few controls just north & west of hash house to hopefully pick up Sunday AM on the way back from the NE swamp. Some jogging, but mostly fast walking - particularly off-trail. Spared weight by carrying filter and empty bottle rather than 5-6 pounds of water like I usually do. This strategy alone allowed a faster pace with less fatigue. I will have a detailed writeup available on the USOF Rogaine website by the end of the week for anyone that cares. [Brahmas]

Run - Trail (Crandalls) 15:26 [4] 3.68 km (4:12 / km)

8:00am - sunny, 50 - asthma most of the run, not much life in the legs. Pushed as hard as I could anyway. Incredibly, I managed to shave 3 seconds off previous best - probably due to pushing harder in the first 1000m. May take rest of week off before Rogaine on Saturday.[Estes]

Monday Aug 21, 2000 #

Run - Trail (Shenipsit Lake) 46:52 [3] 8.5 km (5:31 / km)

7:30am - sunny, mid 40's. Ran jeep road to ST, out to Grahaber and across to SLR, along east shore of lake and then back via powerlines. Asthma most of the way, walked the bigger hills. [Brahmas]

Saturday Aug 19, 2000 #

Run - Trail (Soapstone Base (ccw)) 27:11 [3] 5.0 km (5:26 / km)

7:50am - sunny, cool, muddy - ran a loop ccw around base of Soapstone out to Webster and back with Ken & Bruce. Felt good, no asthma, calves a bit tight from Wed.... [Brahmas]

Run - Road (Shenipsit Lake Loop (ccw)) 1:25:50 [3] 17.2 km (4:59 / km)

6:40am - cloudy, cool - opted to run roads this AM (~1/3 dirt, 2/3 paved) in anticipation of rogaine next weekend. Line of thunderstorms moved in about 25 minutes into run - it poured for about 30 minutes and rained lightly thereafter. Took off glasses as they were utterly useless. [Estes]

Tuesday Aug 15, 2000 #

Run - Trail (Crandalls) 15:29 [4] 3.68 km (4:12 / km)

7:30am - cloudy, cool w/ a bit more mud in the low spots. Pushed hard from the start, felt good all the way through except for the usual Asthma, but felt strong at the end. Sub 15 minutes is probably doable. [Brahmas]

Sunday Aug 13, 2000 #

Run - Trail (Skyline) 1:12:04 [4] 13.0 km (5:33 / km)

9:30am - cloudy, cool. After a surprisingly fast pace at Crandalls on Friday, decided to push and see if I could break 70 minutes at Skyline. (Not today). Ran hard to Minnechoag south peak (15 min), 20 min to base of Hill 880. 16 minutes, mostly walking, to summit both 880 & Pine. Crossed over paved road enroute to sandpit at exactly 60 minutes. Pretty good pace back. [Brahmas]

Run - Trail (Crandalls) 15:46 [4] 3.68 km (4:17 / km)

7:30am - lingering cold finally going away. Have run almost nil since Allegany in July. Woody coming up in 2 weeks, then move right into training for US Champs. Felt good, a little asthma in the last 3-4 minutes.

Have to look back, although it did not feel exceptionally fast, I don't think I have broken the 16 minute barrier here until this AM.[Estes]
