Running race 2:52:05 [4] 10.0 mi (17:13 / mi) +25m 17:05 / mi
shoes: New Balance RC1001 Flats

Lakefront 10 Miler. Brrrr! Cold, raw, and snow still on the ground. Not the best time to be exposed to the elements for almost four hours, with bus/L train commute included.

But ran the whole thing. I was amazed. Only a 4 mile training run a couple of weeks ago. Unexpected cold, snow and ice cancelled any further training outside. But I've been keeping up the daily rowing sessions in the basement...and that seems to have given me unexpected endurance!

3:39 slower than last year. But not bad at all...considering. Only one other guy in my age group. So I earned 2nd Place! Compared with 4th last year! I'm not getting older; I'm getting better! :-0

76th Birthday Row! A bit slower. But great to make this milestone, still doing reps!

Shoveling 45:00 [2]

3"-4" of "Lake Effect" snow. Wet; making for heavy shoveling.

Normally happens in Chicago in the spring, when the winds come from the east, blowing across the cold Lake, and dropping the moisture as snow. Usual winds are dry, and from the west. So our side of Lake Michigan gets much less snow and rain than the east side of the Lake. And our forests show it.

Fastest 5k since mid-December. Roasted a turkey last night. Maybe it was all that protein that sparked the endurance. Pacing was good too:

2:22.1
2:21.5
2:19.4
2:18.5
2:13.2.......overall: 2:18.9
