Hiking 1:18:00 [3] 4.0 mi (19:30 / mi) +1206ft 15:10 / mi

My shoulder is still hurting, so I opted for a recovery hike up the Gorge Trail in October Mountain State Park. It is a beautiful area, although not very large--less than a mile from the bottom to the top. The Gorge Trail is actually two trails--one on each side of the brook. There are numerous small waterfalls and a couple of 5-7 meter tall cliffs next to the brook. I went up and down twice for my workout.

Orienteering 2:33:32 [4] 13.5 km (11:22 / km) +600ft 10:39 / km

This year I went to the Billygoat with a bit more training in my legs than in past years, although I was nursing a very sore left shoulder, thanks to a crash into a rock about two weeks before the Goat.

During the race, though the shoulder felt fine and I only crashed once, and did not hurt the shoulder, so I am ecstatic with that. And my training meant that I was probably running a bit more than in previous Goats, so I found myself seeing more people around me, which obviously helps tremendously, compared to being totally isolated.

Colette and I traveled to Moreau with Bruce Shenker, who had a great run, too. Colette cooled her heels by walking on trails for seven miles while Bruce and I ran the course.

In short, it was a splendid outing, although tiring, for all of us.

The EMPO Club workers did a fantastic job, I only wished that the locale could have been closer to my home, so that I could have contributed, but it wasn't, and I didn't contribute to the work--sorry everyone.

Walking (on trails) 54:00 [3] 3.0 mi (18:00 / mi)

An easy walk with Colette in Kennedy Park--no need to get carried away with training when the Billygoat is tomorrow. :-)

Trail Running 1:50:28 [3] 8.2 mi (13:28 / mi) +1187ft 11:51 / mi

Drove over to New Lenox Road and ran up that, then over to Sykes Mountain and along a dirt road I had not run on before--it dropped a fair bit and then I climbed back up on some mountain bike trails, which in that area meander endlessly. :-)

Walking 53:15 [3] 3.0 mi (17:45 / mi) +1251ft 12:44 / mi

Shoulder was a little sore after yesterday's run, so I chose to do some repeats up Schermerhorn Road, near Woods Pond, with 20 pounds of rice in my backpack. Managed three repeats in my allotted hour and called it a day.

Trail Running 53:44 [3] 5.0 mi (10:45 / mi) +676ft 9:32 / mi

Yahoo! Back to running, although the shoulder is still not completely healed--still swollen and some pain while running, but nothing too bothersome. Might be a lot more annoying if I crash again though.

Tried to be extra vigilant re concentrating on the trail and where to place my feet--only tripped a bit once today.

As is usual, I felt terrible when the run started, sluggish, awkward and not at all comfortable, but that changed after I warmed up a bit and the rest of the run was fine.

I wore a new pair of lightweight ASICS shoes today--testing them out for possible use on the Escarpment Trail--not 100% sure about them yet, but they were surprisingly well cushioned.
