30 min uphill tempo up some random hill near Taranaki. Tough old hill, kind of gradually got steeper as it went. Near the top I wasn't going great and then I reached the saddle and was able to open it out again. Finished below the last steep climb to the summit but was meeting G on the other side so up top for a few pics before a pretty long descent.
Drove over to Turangi then after this. Google brought us a weird way and we went many k's on gravel which was not what we wanted. Free campsite though.

Taranaki
Steep steep and more steep was the order of the day. A nice mountain but very very busy. Bottom part was concrete road up to the hut. Then nice path for a bit before a big section of scree. Top bit was some nice scrambling though. Clouds came in just as we were up near the summit, so we got no views. Then they went away once we were off. Some super fun scree skiing, passing out everyone. Met some Irish people very briefly as we flew past. Took an alternate route down from the hut which was waaaay nicer. Only saw 2 people on it and it was on nice single track.
Actually turned out we were staying beside the Irish people in the campsite so hung out in the evening and went into town for a few drinks. Then turned out that one of them (Rob) I had met before at intervals in Newtown!

Camped in Otaki Forks overnight, lovely quiet campsite, like 2 other cars there. Then up Mt. Hector. It was warm enough at the bottom but steep steep climbing out of the valley. Progress was decent though. Once out of the forest it flattened a bit and there were some excellent views. Wind picked up a bit though. After the last push to the plateau it was proper cold and very windy. I was also somewhat behind schedule and worried Gina would be waiting for me so decided to leave it at that. Tough decent with the steepness and tired legs. Heard a cukoo on the way down. Then a dip in the river after before driving North.

Left Nelson and heard on the radio after we had gone past that there was a big fire closing the road.
Stopped in pretty Pelorus bridge, Gina went for a walk and I did some session. Watch was acting up, hence the many parts. Got given out to by a farmer for being on a road where I thought I was supposed to be on like the 2nd last interval.
Followed by a swim in the river which was lovely on such a warm day and then driving to Picton for the ferry. Mediocre pie in Picton but ice cream was excellent.
