Up Mt. Armstrong from Fantail Falls. A proper steep climb the whole way really. Forest for the first ~800m climb, then a bit of open as far as Brewster hut. Met a few people coming down who had stayed there overnight. Stopped for a snack at the hut before heading up to the summit. Path only half of the way from the hut to the top and then it was was following cairns through scree which you can imagine is not the easiest thing in the world. We lost them at some point and made our own way very successfully. Fantastic views from the summit and took some nice pics before heading down. Found the cairns a bit better on the descent and built some new ones / repaired some. Stopped at the hut for a chat and more food on the way down and I accidentally reset my watch.

Hill Walk 1:26:46 intensity: (1:13:53 @0) + (12:52 @1) + (1 @3) 4.05 km (21:26 / km) +15m 21:03 / km

Thus from Brewster hut down is in this separate entry. Tough steep downhill through the forest. Lovely swim below the waterfall afterwards.

Had kinda thought of going back to Wanaka but decided it was too far once at the car so headed onto Haast. Stopped at a waterfall and the shop on the way. Campsite had a pool table which was a bit of fun.

Queenstown downhill MTBing. Cost a lot of money this with bike, pads & helmet rental, then paying for the lift. First few runs were great, building up some confidence. Had a funny crash where I hit a tree but managed to jump off forwards and run down the hill but couldn't stop for a good 25m. Some people coming after me saw my bike but not me and were very concerned. Favourite run was the jumping one (SLS or something). Don's confidence level got very high and he just wanted to do blacks though I was very happy with blues. He then went off a big step and wrecked himself, landing on his head and breaking his wrist. Poor fella. Weeks of rehab ahead of him.

Gina and I went our own way back up north from Queenstown with the first stop being Wanaka. I had a tempo & hills to do so out along the lakeside path for the tempo. Passed #thatwanakatree. Lovely path and not too busy. Still pretty warm even though it was late enough in the evening. Tempo felt ok though not great. Misjudged the distance on the slightly and had a bit of a jog to the hills. 6x1min & 6x30s with jog down. Hard stuff.

Met Gina then and went for an amazing cooling off swim in the lake before some ice cream and dinner in town.

Up Ben Lomond from Queenstown. Another properly sunny day keeping us very warm, Nice path though pretty busy.

Running (off-road) 1:28:28 intensity: (7:17 @0) + (43:35 @1) + (15:16 @2) + (11:42 @3) + (9:34 @4) + (1:04 @5) 9.41 km (9:24 / km) +411m 7:43 / km

From Ben Lomond down the the gap and up the other hill. Went down that ridge then instead. Ruth & Don went back to the car and Regina did the around without the extra hill. Met some guy at the end of the ridge who was absolutely dying of thirst after climbing the east nose. I gave him a drink and then went down west to meet the path around and Gina.

Hill Walk 1:21:46 intensity: (42:29 @0) + (38:58 @1) + (18 @2) + (1 @3) 5.59 km (14:38 / km) +292m 11:36 / km

Feeling pretty wrecked and regretting a little bit giving that guy some water I walked with Gina once I caught up with her. One of the best bottles of coke I've had from the pub in the valley where we met Ruth & Don.

Bit of an explore cycle from Arrowtown down the river with Gina, Ruth & Don. Stopped an looked at the bungee jumpers for a while at the far end before coming back a slightly different way. Pleasant. Lovely swim in the lake afterwards. Stroked a duck that was outrageously friendly.

Nice easy run from the campsite. Lovely path along the side of the hill. Sunny.
