Running (road) warm up/down 6:08 [2] 0.77 km (7:58 / km) +25m 6:51 / km
ahr:130 shoes: Jalas FLX

Warm down. felt a bit rough

Orienteering race 54:30 [5] **** 8.85 km (6:09 / km) +172m 5:37 / km
ahr:172 spiked:15/21c shoes: Jalas FLX

Started off fast, was 3 mins behind a Welsh guy I wanted to catch. got 1 spot on, great to 2 as well and saw him on the way and then everything went awry. dropped over 2mins after seeing my control but thinking that it wasnt mine cause it was too soon and way off line, but it was me that was wrong anbd i even saw the welsh guy punch it. then at number 4 there was a knoll across the path and i thought it was a black x marking the pylon so i took a bearing from the wrong place and missed it. missed 5. was perfect on line to 6 but saw another control and thought it must be mine.
pulled it together for a while then getting 7,8,9,10 really well felt like I was flying and then i missed the crossing point to 11 and ran straight to the second one and then had to go back up the inside of the fence. started to feel tired then legs were burning going up to 13 and 14 and i was suffering to 15. got to open the legs again down to 16 and was able to run a bit, then did the last loop pretty well except for the second last which i missed by like 20 secs which by itself would have been fine...

basically I was running faster than I could orienteer today due to pushing myself harder and I was covering the ground faster too. need to do more fast o training and learn to govern my speed better.

HR is a guess

Orienteering race 1:49:22 [5] **** 17.0 km (6:26 / km) +349m 5:50 / km
ahr:165 spiked:13/19c shoes: Jalas FLX

SHI long on Merthyr Common.

I felt tired at the start missed one by about 5 seconds which didnt bother me and it was into the wind to 2. That was a bit of a struggle but I was staring to feel better y the time I got to 2. It was an esay control and I spiked it.
I drifted horribly on the way to number 3 but maybe it wasnt so bad? ended up at the right height after a while and came in to the circle from the u-shaped rocky area. I didnt really know my height, felt I was high saw some unmapped trees which didnt help and was looking out for the rocks just above the control but they werent there... faffed around looking for it then knowing i was somewhere in the re-entrant. dropped 2 mins.
on the way to 4 saw ben stevens and hot on his tail were colm and hugh all heading to 7. I stopped a little short but got it pretty fine. missed 5 then by about 30 seconds. didnt take my planned routechoice to 6 but i think it worked out ok
7 was an easy control really, maybe i should have gone straighter in the beginning though.
then it was 8 and into the rough stuff. I had been pushing hard and my brain was getting fuzzy and I started doing not what I meant to on the legs. went under the spur to 8, though I was at the end of the escarpment at 9 and didnt believe the rocks I saw on the ground at 10.
then i somehow had the fastest split to 11. I think I was running fast...
I was getting hazier and hazier then and stopped short for 12. 13 was fine and I took an energy gel when I left it. Then I died. struggled up the hill knew I was somewhere thought i was somewhere else and generally went slowly in not quite the wrong direction. just reached the end of my physical ability really.
managed to pick it back up a bit at the end when duncar archer went past me and did the last few at some reasonable speed.

overall I was happy enough with my speed but not my strength and I was running much harder than I normally do but my orienteering suffered as a result

slept:6.0 (rest day)

went to bed late and has a 9 oclock this morning. it was terrible stuff.
then the worst thing happened... the fire alarm went off. It was so loud, managed to get some clothes on the find colm in the hall acting the eejit and waving a towel at the alarm. i ran to the circuit board and flipped the breaker when he told me he couldnt find the fire. there was no fire to be found. and only a faint smell of rashers.
terrible stuff
