Orienteering 16:45 [4] 3.62 km (4:38 / km)

Ara campus sprint. wicked little map, 1:2500. Lot of route choice, and lots of tight corners and twisting around buildings. Happy with my routes bar one and a pretty clean race all up.

Running warm up/down 16:00 [2] 2.75 km (5:49 / km)

Orienteering 17:02 [5] 3.15 km (5:24 / km) +30m 5:10 / km

Chasing start forest sprint at Spencer Park. In a train with Tim, Simon J, Dougal and a couple of other of the young guys. Managed to keep up with the boys, and slipped past on a couple of the technical controls, but didn't have much of a chance in the run-in to the finish. Happy to stick with them though!

mass start sprint at le bons bay. mixture of open sand dunes, forest and parkland. Good fun. Was chasing Tim F for the most part. was in a good position in a line of the guys on the last lap, but we had to cross the river twice and unfortunately my short legs didn't serve me well in the water! 11th on the course.

Sprint around Gardens of Tane in Akaroa. Very wellington botanical gardens like. A maze of trails with lots of routechoice...and lots of climb.

Orienteering 46:00 [4] 7.3 km (6:18 / km)

Kairaki Middle distance. First time on this map and had heard it required a cautious approach fro those who were at SI champs in November. Duly went and messed up #2 and #3, but then had a nice smooth run. Everything showed up where I expected it and I was able to push along nicely. Pleased to find that I was fastest on the course for the day...until one C. Forne showed up for the last start... Still, very happy to find that from #3 to the finish I was 1.5mins faster than him.
Think I may have missed a golden opportunity to beat the legend himself. But maybe it's not my one and only chance, he is getting older ;)

Spin around Hanmer trails with Tessa. Unfortunately her rental bike was a bit of a dud, so was a slow spin. Still, got a good loop in around the new Tombstone track.

Running - mountains 4:20:00 [2] 16.7 km (15:34 / km) +1230m 11:23 / km

Day trip up Mt Faust from Boyle village. Cracker of a run - about an hour straight up through the beech forest before breaking out onto the clear tops. another 400m climb from the bushline to the top from which there were views for days. Would have loved to continue along the ridgeline and down to Lewis Pass, but that will have to wait another day.
The way down got a little adventurous as it turned out that the track on my map was long gone. But the ridge was fine enough to follow down to the valley below, just a little scratchy.

Mt Isobel from Hanmer with T-dawg. Cloud came in just as we got the top, but was plenty warm enough to sit and have lunch at the summit still :)

Return to Weld cone... fortunately 10deg cooler than the last time we were here. And the course was very well set, including a shuttle ride to the start near the top of the hill! Some good routechoices put in there, happy with my choices and happy to scare a few of the guys, including only being 2.5mins behind Jo. ;)
