After work rogaine. After a long day out on the lake sampling, made it to the event 2mins before the start! Luckily OT rogaine start with a briefing and then 5mins planning, so plenty of time! Did not, however, have a pen for plotting my plan, or answering the questions at controls...what a rookie rogainer!
Anyway, the map was 90% urban, and good fun. I set off harder than I meant, and by 1hr was halfway around the controls. Was then a bit worried that I might have to clear the course, but also knew I was going to get slower, and had to get back up the top of the map too.
Made a bit of a mess of my planning on the run, and over extended myself, opting to get the controls in pukekura park in the far north. I knew it was a mistake as I headed off on the loop, but still went for it. Was not helped by some temp construction, which lengthened my route, and really had to push to get back on time. Had to drop 180 easy points (cf the 170 hard earned points on my long loop) but oh well. Training.
Made it back with 20s to spare.
Ended up taking out the running category, and beat 3/4 of the bikers too ;)
Highlight of te evening was probably standing outside a f&c shop for about 1min, trying to read the menu to find out how much a mussel fritter cost. This was topped a couple of mins later when a couple of bikers rode past and said I was making it look easy - to which I replied that I'd just had a break cos it took me ages finding out how much a mussel fritter cost...
....yeah, turns out they were just normal bikers, not bike rogainers. Oops. What a weirdo.
