Orienteering 54:00 [5] 7.52 km (7:11 / km) +320m 5:55 / km

World cup middle.
Pretty disappointed here. Knew it was a day where anything could happen, just had to keep things clean and clear and under control. But failed in that. I'm not too fussed about the quality of the map etc, I think as an orienteer you have to be able to adapt to these things. But maybe that's as I've grown up in a country where we have to adapt to these things ;)
Nope, today I had an alrights start. Maybe not the best route choices, but safe enough. Until 6-7 where I didn't see the flag and panicked. Made a nice parallel mistake, mixing up which saddle I was at, leading to 3mins circling the wrong area. Reached 7 (the second time) at the same time as a train of girls who started directly ahead and behind me. But opted not to follow them as I thought I knew better.
Lol.
I misinterpreted the same two saddles/spurs again, and made the same parallel mistake, just 90deg different from before! Another 90s gone.
Gritted my teeth and got through tbe rest of the course. Lost plenty of time on small map details and just silly tired decisions, so hard to estimate total time loss without sitting down and looking properly, but I know top 15 was there for taking.

Ah well, i'm a sprint specialist now anyway ;) managed to keep up with Marty dent on the tracks for a bit, so there's a positive!!

Although my knee let it be known today that it is not happy with being a sprint specialist :( stupid itb, not used to hard surfaces after 4 yrs in Norwegian marshes!

Running warm up/down 24:00 [2] 4.0 km (6:00 / km)

Painfull warmdown. Will have to nurse my knee through these two sprints

Running warm up/down 19:00 [2] 3.3 km (5:45 / km)

Orienteering 20:30 [3] 3.9 km (5:15 / km)

Today's sprint training was in an abandoned village. More small alleyways and tight navigation but more structured building layout than yday. Pretty epic though as many passages were actually just running through houses - in the front door and through the backdoor to the next alleyway. A lot of fun but not the same potential for major blowouts as yesterday.

Went an easy pace, above a jog but nowhere near race pace. Enjoyed myself :)

Orienteering warm up/down 35:00 [2] 5.3 km (6:36 / km)

Wu along the river and WD jogging the men's course with Krystal

Orienteering 16:20 [3] 3.15 km (5:11 / km)

this is what I came here for :) awesome sprint through tight and crazy alleyways of a foshan village. Had to be spot on the neav the whole way or you'd end up in the wrong alley and very very confused! This happened to me twice, but was happy to figure it out and recover fast.
Loved every second, apart from the angry little dog that tried to bite me at #1. I escaped his jaws though.

Orienteering 18:03 [3] 3.45 km (5:14 / km)

Moved alomg to the next patch of village for the second session. More of the same, with the added bonus of some topography, and some longer legs. Some bits were more spread out than this mornings village but it was easily just as technical.
I got confused as on the long leg to 2, but recovered/improvised well. Blew it om#5 though, got the wrong alley and ended up in very much the wrong pace. Paid the price for not taking the simple route. Good to keep in mind for next week. In this stuff its far better to invest a couple of seconds ina safe route than to risk a 50s blow out. Cleanest runner is going to win I think.
Eased off the pace after #5 and was clean the rest of the the way. Fastest of the PWT crowd despite my mistake, but a lot of people were better at jogging than Me ;)

Running warm up/down 25:00 [2] 4.3 km (5:49 / km)

Wu and WD jogging some of the men's course and comparing routes with the girls

Running 16:00 [1] 2.9 km (5:31 / km)

Morning jog with lone. Found an atm as our cards don't work here and everyone seems to pay with wechat. ( which does everything it seems)
10 AM

Running 43:00 [2] 7.9 km (5:27 / km)

Discovered sightseeing wasn't until 11:30 bit would last all day, so went for a run from our hotel down and around the lake with Lone, krystal and denisa.

Morning jogs around the beach resort before a full day of travel from rizhou to foshan. No long train and dicey bus ride this time!

Orienteering 18:00 [4] 3.5 km (5:09 / km)

PWT public race. Still with prize money haha. A forest/beach sprint. Like yesterday a hell of a lot more running than navigation, so I had little chance against the speedsters. Not that that mattered as I shot myself in the foot by navigating 3-4 when I was actually doing 1-2. Overshot #2 by a mile, losing 30s+ and any chance of top 6. Also lost 30s on the third last where I had no descriptions (the start was a little disorganised, thy were strapping on my GPS with 15s to go haha), anyway I ram down to the beach before looking up and seeing the control was actually on top of the uncrossable wall. Very annoyed with that, especially as the later girls got descriptions (and as it turned out, 5/6 of the top girls crossed olive green to get to the control...but we let that one slide)
