Orienteering race 39:10 [4] 5.56 km (7:03 / km)

Woke up to the surprise news that D21 Guest class was running the final course today. Awesome news, but took a while to wake the body up and get used to the idea of racing on a day I thought I wouldn't!

The run felt OK physically, but was frustrating technically, with a couple of points that I really need to work on being very apparent today; taking the time to check things such as direction/plan before leaving the control (e.g. #2-3, #13-14), at critical points enroute (eg. #5, #9, #13), and entering the circle (too many to list). Need to be pedantic and precise!

Orienteering race 24:30 [4] 3.3 km (7:25 / km)

Guest Class on D21 Q1. Took the course fairly attacking as didn't think I'd get a run the next day anyway, and no pressure about qualifying ;)

A bit too aggressive at the start, where I had my direction off on #1 though. Small misses on the last 2 controls which was annoying after a strong run. The gps doesn't show much wrong with my approach to the last control, but it was very slow and hesitant, as there was very little to go off entering the flat green - the best indicator of where the finish was was the loud speaker, but it wasn't saying much as I was the only person near the finish at the time!

Orienteering race 1:16:00 [4] 8.8 km (8:38 / km)

NM Long distance, running D21 Guest Class.
In general happy with my routechoices, but lacked a bit of aggression/push and had a couple of lapses in concentration, otherwise a decent day out. A few needless time losses, such as; #2 where I got completely put off by the new felling and couldn't interpret the contours within it, so lost fair time on the approach and #8 I spotted the right cliff, but not the control so dived too low. The hill to #9 it was hard to keep track of just where you were, but should have executed it straighter still. and 15-16, i took a slow option (but gps watch died so you can't see ;)

Orienteering 43:00 [1] 4.1 km (10:29 / km)

Map walk/jog around the model area. Felt good to get out in Trondheim terrain, 5 years later than planned! Legs were feeling pretty darn tired though.

Also, there seemed to be a long time-lapse camera set up about 50m from one of the controls. Wonder who was filming us all, and over how long?

Also also, the northern lights came out to play later at night!! :D ...and I got to give a geeky explanation of it (dunno if anyone was listening, but i'm sure someone asked, honest!) :) years of geomag study finally paying off in a (not quite) everyday life situation. wooooo.

Note
(rest day)

Travel back to Halden for the night before up to NM tomorrow.

Unpack, wash, pack. Luckily not much overlap between sprint and forest gear for the two trips!

Booked flights to World Cup. So guess that's finalised. 3 week training program here I come!

Orienteering 31:00 [3]

ASOM race 3. City race, so hoped the longer format would be more comfortable and safe. Managed the frst 16mins well (aside from full on collidng with another runner, and a slghtly wrong control). But went downhiill at 16, not as full a episode as yday, but had to walk, stop a couple of times, and jog the rest.
