Strength and Conditioning 22:00 [2]

8 AM

biking (commute) 30:00 [2]

to/from UC

Running warm up/down 25:00 [3]

WU/WD and rest jogs between intervals

Orienteering 30:00 [5]
shoes: Saucony Fastwitch 4

Sprint intervals at UC for OA filming. Didn't expect the training to be quite so full on - especially doing 6x4-6min sprint courses against the boys!
Found I could hang on for 2-3 controls, but then they'd stretch out towards the end.
managed to tear up my legs in some green stuff and got full body slammed by Shep heading into one control. It's on camera i think, so might make the final cut

biking (commute) 18:00 [3]

You know it's bad when you start playing horse, by yourself, on the bike.

Mtn Biking 17:00 [3]

up to the lab in the stinking heat, keeping an eye out for snakes (still none)

And then back down in the thunder and lightning and hail. Tried to time it in a gap, but I got about as far as the gate before the weather let loose on me! COvered in orange mud and looking like a drowned rat when I got back to the office 5mins later. (and I'd left all my wet weather gear at the office cos it was so nice when I headed up to the lab!)

biking (commute) 15:00 [2]

Home, 20mins later. In the beautiful sunshine again. crazy weather.

AHHHH FOOT CRAMP! youch :(

Strength and Conditioning 22:00 [3]

advantage of doing this in the morning - cat is still asleep so isn't 'helping' by stroking against my face while I'm lying on the floor.

Football 1:15:00 [2]

another 2hr+ session but plenty of standing around. Knee was sore in the first couple of exercises but once we were on the artificial turf and with a bit more space it was fine.

After I talked to the coach on tues, she put me at central mid today. After training she came up and said 'you're right, you're definitely a central mid!' Ahaha, glad she can see that! I would be crap as a wide defender lol

biking (commute) 40:00 [2]

Loving my fluoro hump backpack cover. I haven't been hit in two days wearing it, so I class it a success! (i didn't get hit the 350 odd days without it either, but that doesn't make me love it less)

Orienteering 15:55 [3]
shoes: inov8 X-talon 2012

twilight event.
Forest sprint with very vague contours and point features in pine forest with ankle breaking rocks underfoot.
Used it as compass and pace counting training. Result being my compass work is a bit shite, but pace counting worked well!
Lost 40s on the first control, despite hitting my stepping stones fine, I ended up within 10m but not seeing the control, so headed back out to the track to relocate. Just confused at with what I was looking for (a giant stump, not a thicket). not a good start!

Bearings were shocking for the first half of the course, then cleaned up my act a bit towards the end.

Close competition between Grace, Shannon and me, with 11s covering the 3 of us!

Orienteering 22:00 [2]
shoes: inov8 X-talon 2012

WU/WD and went back out backwards around the course for some extra training. Going at 2/3 of race pace my bearings were much much better. Just need to take the extra second in competition to get them right I think.
Pace counting was pretty much bang on too. Gave my compass to Mo when I met her at 9 (she'd got that far without which is impressive for someone who's only been orienteering 6months!).

Happy with this second bout of training, shame I couldn't do the same thing when I was actually racing!

Think I've found my ride to work nemesis. He wears a plaid shirt and jeans and is on an old shoddy bike, but takes all the short cuts so is about the same speed to uni as me.

Game on.

ITB roll out :s
7 PM

Football 1:00:00 [1]

well, training went on 2 hours but there was a fair amount of standing and listening to be had.

L Knee was ok with all the fitness stuff but seized up at the thought of twisting and turning. Not cool, and annoying to have tweaked it on such a nothing training as Sunday! Had to sit out the game stuff at the end and just collected loose balls instead - think i got more running doing that anyway lol.

bit worried that I might end up playing a bit wing-back due to my fitness and our apparent abundance of centre mids. Did positional play there tonight and felt like a complete fish out of water!

Orienteering 42:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trabuco 2012

WOC club event at Seatoun.

Wish someone had warned me it would be Rob Collier special. He'd extended the map and put on features where he wanted controls...
start - 1 I ran 90degrees wrong out of the start, just to mess with Mum who was starting a min behind me ;) then had to climb pretty much to the top of Beacon hill.
lost time at 3 trying to figure out which of the about 10 cliffs was the one that had been mapped. Eventually found the faded flag. Then lost another 1.5mins at 4 as i searched a huge green reentrant, which the circle was vaguely in the middle of with the description 'reentrant'. eventually headed out and found 5 and worked my way back to it (control was visible from the track if I'd just kept going...)
Warned mum about #4 as I passed her looking for 3 (she forgot by the time she got there though).
Then tweaked my left knee going to 7. So walk/jogged all the way back down the hill. decided to keep going (typical) and it seemed to come right by the time I'd climbed to 8, on top of the bunkers.
Then 9-10-11 took us along and through the sand and bodies on Wellington's nudist beach...(mum was not impressed: "I came down the track onto the beach, and the first thing I saw was a penis!" - to which i replied "you weren't concentrating hard enough on your orienteering then!")

and got horribly stuck in gorse at 14. Which made me thankful I wasn't a nudist.

yep. good day out!

also, pretty sure I've never had "broad earth bank, south side" as a control description before!
