Running 45:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trabuco 2012

was going to do Mt HEctor with mum today, but my legs were too tired and the wind was pretty unrelenting anyway. So had a nice long brunch with brother and sister in law in palmy, did a bit of shopping and headed home.

Ran up Kaukau and along the ridge to meet mum running along from Karori. legs surprisingly fine following yday but it was a very easy pace. Stunning day, bit breezy.

Orienteering 1:30:00 [3]
shoes: inov8 X-talon 2012

corridor exercise followed by loops.

Was first trhough the corridor so went very carefully (and a little confusedly) through the middle section where I couldnt' make the rough open fit.

aiming off, and tight map reading practice on the loops.

Orienteering 40:00 [4]

Czech relay. 6x3-4 control courses. Could stay with the boys for a couple of controls, but then would hesitate on the 3/4th control and lose them. Almost got them on the last one though :)

legs shattered.

Strength and Conditioning 25:00 [3]

an hilarious push up lesson from Jula, followed by showing laura how to stretch, and some token physio exercises. Reeaaaally need to get back into a routine with these.

Running 30:00 [3]

got sick of waiting for camp training, so went to the park in palmy and did a little session with Laura, Jula and Beccy.
Warm up through the quarry with some cadence counting, then set up a grid of shoes and did some shuttle training with maps Matt styles.
Then a warm down through the quarry.
Good fun, legs were tired as though, pretty pathetic shuttles.

Also timed arrival in the car park just right so had to subtly get changed infront of the school bus stop...
5 PM

Orienteering 55:00 [3]
shoes: inov8 X-talon 2012

At Harakeke.
Parked at the gate and went for an explore. Managed to set some pretty good training, unfortunately 75% of the areas I set it through were impassable or just crap.
But the other 25% was useful :)
Re-acquanting myself with pace counting, useful tool when used correctly.

Roast Pork cooked by Laura's gran for dinner - unfortunately someone got to all the kumara before me though...

Orienteering 55:00 [3]

route choice training on Te Mata with Laura. Really good use of the area, some tough decisions. Legs a bit tired, but pie, coffee and custard square fixed that :)

Orienteering warm up/down 20:00 [3]

Orienteering intervals 35:00 [5]
shoes: VJ Bold 2011

Hill reps. hard up hill to one control, then carrying through to a second while in oxygen debt. easy rest down to the start again.
did 4 reps on the first start, 4 + 1 extended rep on the 2nd.

Legs felt surprisingly fine, good stuff

Tangoio training. Some quality coaching from Jean, look forward to working with her leading up to next year's World Cups.

diagonal downhill training on some really steep stuff, glad I had my Bolds on! Physically tough training and was going pretty slow. Managed to crawl through some OngaOnga, just to liven up my day :)

good training, v. tiring.

Orienteering race 17:07 [5]
shoes: VJ Bold 2011

STB #5 Sleeping Giant

A bush sprint which everyone was saying should suit me (not a good start!). Following my big mistake on saturday, this was my chance to catch up the leaders. Took it safe the first few controls, lost time on 4 and 5, getting stuck in rocky ground.

Then I made my first mistake, taking the left choice on the long leg to 6. Stupid! Hills are my strength so I should have busted a gut straight up the hill to the road like the others did. instead got stuck climbing through 9 and lost 30s to Angela on the split!
But then compounded my error by dropiing over a minute on 7. Got stuck coming out of 6, then misread the rough open across the road and started looking early. Angela zipped infront here and then it was a catch up game.

Busted out the last couple of hillsprint legs as I knew I'd blown my run for the yellow singlet. Disappointing all up, just rusty nav and decision making. To be expected at the start of the season but doesn't stop me kicking myself for it.

3rd 1min back from Greta and Angela. (greta doing a much better job of carrying out our plan for a clean race and letting our legs take care of themselves!)

Running warm up/down 20:00 [3]

not much of a warm up really but a decent warm down after

Orienteering race 14:10 [5]
shoes: Saucony Fastwitch 4

Final stage of STB. Still wearing the horrible and misshaped pokadot singlet, despite my best efforts to lose it in Napier and Te Mata Peak!

Finally got it right and had a fully clean race and no map hiccups :) Legs clicked too despite 5 previous races. Disappointing to see Angela and Greta both dsq, would have made an interesting finish for the podium.

19s ahead of Rachel, but no where near passing her in the overall standings, well deserved victory for her!

Got a george foreman grill for winning the hill climbs all up, and get to keep that beautiful singlet :) 2nd in the yellow singlet standings.

Pretty happy with the weekend as a whole. Lack of speed work and summer training due to my knee showed compared to Rachel, but I've got 5months to work on that yet! Goal achieved in taking out all 3 Super series races :) Hopefully once my brain is more atuned to racing again we'll see fewer (ie. NONE) of my brain explosions mid course!

STB #3. Westside.

A good run, can't say I made any real mistakes - one costly route choice. Pretty pissed off afterwards though to find that I'd been screwed over by the map. Once on the way to 3 where there were stairs which were indistinguishable from the uncrossable wall and building. And again 14-15 where there was a gap between the fence and building. The second one i could have read if I stopeed dead and looked hard, but the first there's no way I'd have seen it without prior knowledge (like if i'd run last year)
Seeing either of them would have given me a winning time. 12-15s dropped on each of them.

Still raced the best that I could, happy with that atleast. and only 11 and 6s behind rachel and angela respectively.

Running warm up/down 25:00 [3]

big group warmup/down with half the WE field :)

Orienteering race 15:52 [5]

STB #4 Frimley.

Not exactly my favourite map given my experiences 2 years ago! http://www.attackpoint.org/viewlog.jsp/user_6262/p...
But starting in the school gave me hope for a more technical race rather than a straight blat around the open gardens.
Had another good clean enough race. Hammy was sore from sat morning's race still, but managed to pull through. Was a bit nervous out in the garden bit, but told myself to stop being stupid, you're fine, it's just mental. seemed to work and Caught Kate up when she made a mess of the shortest leg of the course, which gave me a bit of a boost. Stupid mistake going to #22 (i think) where I was on the wrong side of the hedge. 10s gone there.

2nd overall to Rachel, 19s back, and a 2nd win for the 2012 superseries :) Interesting to see I was ahead in the buildings, but she started putting 2-3s on me each control in the speedy gardens.
